Technical What are you working on?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 18, 2022.

  1. Working on how to stop the oil leaking from around the dip stick flange on the sump without jacking the engine (8BA) off the mounts and removing the sump.

    :(

  2. That was the plan.

Well known engine shop is willing to machine my Arias/Howard GMC 12 port for o-rings… I included the centering plate, stainless wire and plate guide dowels. Will be nice to start assembly on the 14-1 engine. Now I need to get a steel cam roughed in…..getting a lot tougher today to get one of those done than I ever would have thought.. IMG_6505.jpeg

I built one like that for work only shorter so I could sit on a rolling work seat. It was probably twice the size and made from 5/8” plate with no casters so I moved it with a forklift. Probably my favorite work space.

Fake lake pipes didnt agree with me...gone....upon closer inspection looks like a mediocre custom job... ....Remembered to mention I used this to heat up the Bondo / fiberglass filler and scraped off the filler with a putty knife, then a quick wire brush and done....no dust ....no grinding .....got this in the Hamb garage tips thread.... Screenshot 2024-06-03 6.39.22 AM.png

With the fake lake pipes removed I can now unbolt the Desoto nose.. ..Gonna be a lot easier to set the 350 back 6-9 inches / fabricate motor and trans mounts and firewall modification with the doghouse removed......

Putting a 2003 Duratec four in my 61 Rambler convertible. Had to rebuild the front suspension, and got side tracked making a disc brake bracket for Honda Accord front and rear discs. Was looking for a rear disc caliper that would be easy to use with park brakes, ran across the Honda (99-2012). Since it had the right bolt pattern (5x114.3mm.... 5x4.5") I figured why not try the front brakes as well? So now I'm making and selling front brake brackets for AMCs...

I've created a dilemma through my own stupidity. I decided to assemble my 351W with a passenger-side water pump discharge, then made a bracket to accommodate it, assuming the belt wouldn't interfere with the lower hose. And we know what happens when you assume. I'm about a half inch wrong in that assumption, so I've got to come up with a solution that doesn't involve buying another radiator with a driver-side lower hose and a water pump with an outlet on the driver's side. Anybody know of a fitting or hose that does a short detour down before it goes back up to the water pump? I'm not asking for much, just a quick downward U-turn on that hose to avoid the belt. I guess I could go left a little to avoid the belt, too.

Copper plumbing elbows..45 and 90 degree.....they make a shortie for tight spaces...use with a short cut length of hose...go around.....solved many a oops I thought I had clearance moments...

  16. Thanks for the suggestion! Hotrodding 101. I'll get with my favorite plumbing supplier soon.

These probably wouldn't flow enough water but they are available. From Honest Charley's for one. They are made for flathead Ford engines so there would be two of them on a vehicle.

  19. Thanks, Mike. I'm open to all solutions and this looks like a good candidate, too. I hope someday to drive my '29AA to Columbia where my son is a pediatrician. That's my dream, but hurdles keep getting in the way.

Great pic! I had the same drip. Removed the pan, drilled the rivets, welded nuts inside the pan, made a gasket and bolted it on. It is probable that I will never replace that gasket in my lifetime, but someone may thank me later.

Not sure you have the room but this is what I did. I cut up two hoses from NAPA and used a metal tube from Summit. IMG_4745.jpg IMG_4746.jpg IMG_4780.jpg

Starting to fix/remedy things on the 53 that just bug the shit out of me.
First…someone hacked the dash and put a super tacky clock in the hole. Hole was probably for something else at one point, but that cheesy clock gotsta go.
Sorry no before pic, but couldn’t bring myself to snap one.
Here’s the clock, the patch and the temporary coating til I get around to proper skim and paint.
Gotta love that creative clock mounting bracket o_O:eek:

Edit: So looks like the deluxe cabs came with AM radios and the control was mounted in that location. My truck is not a deluxe cab, so radio might have been a dealer upgrade or owner upgrade. Huh, learned something new.

  24. I'm working out ideas for a rear tube bumper, tomorrow I'm going to swing by the Metal Supermarket place and see if they have what I need.
I was looking at ordering it on line but shipping prices are ridiculous.
