    I love everything about this! Especially the wheel and tire sizes/proportions.

    Congratulations @wheeldog57 !!! That's amazing! Keep us posted on the build....and for chrissakes I beseech implore entreat you not to torture another one of these beautiful old cars with a comical belly button wedge "lakes chop"(sic) ...unless it was actually done in the '50's on a real race car... if I see another one i'll puke!:mad:

    Except to someone like me who could never afford a better one...is this in B.C. @ss34coupe ? if you can lead me to it I would leave it exactly as is...except safe & roadworthy

    The 34 coupe first shown in post #403 has come back to my garage. I sold it to Hamber Duncan in June 2016 to make room for another project and bought it back last month. This one will be full-fendered but retain as much of the original paint as possible. Check out Duncan's thread Original Paint Coupe. 1000000725.jpg

    Hello,

    The style of the 1933-34 Ford coupes were the best thing that happened to the Ford Motor Company, besides the Model A Coupe. The swept back design and smooth flow of the air over the angled radiator and grille far surpassed the big block wall of the square 32 front end. No longer was the “biggish” upright grille going to be a wind block for the coupes/sedans from Ford. The sweptback design was a step in the right direction.

    The 34 Ford 5 window coupe was the first hot rod I saw in our neighborhood. I actually heard it first as the mufflers had a hard time hiding the fact that the modified, Oldsmobile motor was powerful and let everyone know it. as it came rumbling down the street, we knew who it was and eventually the final destination. Our house for a weekly visit was the standard thing my older brother’s friends did. One, they liked the nice environment, the nearest to the auto parts store, the hamburger stand, the car wash and power wash spray building and besides all of that, the actual main draw was my mom’s cooking.

    Whether or not, the teenagers gathering weekly had just eaten something, teenagers always have an empty stomach and no one was going to refuse my mom’s cooked/prepared meals. So, yes, they all liked to gather as teens, discuss hot rods and later on, when my films had been developed, watched the drags from the earlier weekend. But, to enjoy a fabulous meal not normally purchased anywhere, it was definitely a destination place. Even as far away as northern Bixby Knolls, 6-7 miles away, anyone was a fool to miss this great meal.

    Running in the A/Gas class with the big carburetor powered Modified Oldsmobile motor + a LaSalle 3 speed transmission.

    The 34 Ford 5 window was a true hot rod. It ran in the A/Gas class at Lion’s Dragstrip and won several trophies. The impressive thing was that it was a powerful sounding motor and had all sorts of different set ups as far as carburetors and tires.

    The whole street on both sides was filled with colorful purple, flowering Jacaranda trees. Deadly to old hot rod paint… So, when the teenage gathering was going to happen on a Saturday or Sunday morning to lunch, this 34 owner knew about the Jacaranda Trees and made sure he was the first one there and parked in the front yard driveway. A showcase location well out of the reach of the "deadly to paint," purple Jacaranda flowers, that gently floated down to cover everything during the season.

    After I got my first ride in the 34 coupe, I knew I wanted to have this hot rod as my first car. Shifting the tall stick coming out of the floor, the sound of a motor winding out in all gears was real music to my young ears. So, I was making plans as the years rolled by. The 34 was still within my sights.

    Within the year 1959, I was getting close to securing my future hot rod as word was out that the 34 was for sale. Family matters popped up and additional help was needed. So, I had some money saved, but not enough. My brother was not interested as he had his 58 Chevy. Our mom did not like the 34 noisy coupe, so she would not be a part of the purchase. The 34 was sold fast and moved on, out of our area. Aww…
