I have a 1955 Ford F100 and im looking for a windshield wiper motor fix. I have switched over to 12 volt system and I want wipers. It doesn't rain to much in California but just in case. Does anyone know a good kit or a hack I can do?
    Thanks
    Jerry

Newport Engineering, used them on several different vehicles and always fit and worked excellent.

    Hack......
You can use a carburetor spring on the passenger antenna, tie a string to the spring, loop the spring around the wiper arm, run the long end through the driver’s vent window. When it rains...... pull the string.
Since you are in California you will not have to pull it that much.

Can't help with a specifc name/brand, but if you can do a search and find an oem type motor that would fit your needs that's the way to go. I did a 55 chevy converted to an oem 57 electric-great. I've spent mucho dinero on "replacement" motors that truly suck. Have one on an Elco now that cost about $150. and i'm lucky to get one speed, the slowest, if it works at all. Forget the washer option that was extra, it never worked. Oh, its the 3rd one on warrenty. ‍♂️

I am looking at a kit from mid fifties. I have bought stuff from them not much because my truck is pretty compete. I just thought that I might be able to use like a later ford wiper set up.
    Thanks

  8. I've had better results with Newport than any of the others.

  9. Ford trucks went to 12v in '56. later trucks (57-66) might be similar.
On my '51 COE I used a voltage reducer to run the 6V wiper motor on 12V. Works fine for as little as I use it.

Look at rear wiper motors from the back window of minivans.

I wish some smart dude would come up with a battery powered wiper for my avatar. I don't want to wire in a wiper for occasional use. I have driven in plenty of rain and RainEx works pretty well but a wiper would be nice. Battery powered, of course, can't be that difficult, can it?

  13. I went to PickNPull for the lock mechanism for the rear hatch of my '96 Explorer and thought that since the two-speed wiper motor is back there, too, why not just get it and maybe adapt it to my '29AA. Haven't followed through on that yet, but the original rear wiper motor doesn't get much use so why wouldn't the boneyard one be reliable and hardly used, too? Maybe, maybe baby!

There was an outfit in Oregon called Raingear Wiper Systems-- they might be able to help. I know that they did systems for 55-57 Chevs

  15. I put a Raingear kit in my '51 Chev pickup over 20 years ago.... It fit like a glove and has worked flawlessly. AT the time I purchased it, it was substantially less $$$ than Newport, and their tech guys (owners) knew their stuff.

This is a traditional car site, lets build stuff from junk yard parts. After all that's the way we did it back in the day. :D

  17. I drive most of my cars in LA got caught in a medium size rain on one of the project drivers with no wipers. It was not the end of the world.

I bet you just get by with some of that RainX would get you home. One of my 57 Ford's has a Newport wipers and I just so so versus original style

Drill 1 hole - add Model A Roadster wiper. No wiring necessary. Or use RainX. A-17655-AR.jpg

With the exception of vacuum and hydraulic wipers, all the others are battery powered.

  21. Back in the 60's and 70's when you could just go get one, I used to take the 56 Truck wiper motor off the gear box and just put it on the 53-55 gear box. That required a couple hand wrenches and soldering 2 wires on the points plate. Extremely simple change over to 12 volts. I would guess maybe the 57 to 66 units used the same basic motor. We didn't have the Visa Card or 1-800 fix back then.

Another vote for doing it right and getting a motor from Newport Engineering. Their wiper motors are as close to plug and play as you will find. I have another brand that is cable operated that required swapping out the stock linkage for the cable setup that is a royal pain in the butt.

I have used several Newport Engr. wiper sets on several different cars. They install great with very little work!

Are your stock wipers 6 volt or vacuum? If 6 volt just put a voltage drop on it from 12 to 6 volts. If vacuum take the vacuum motor apart and clean and lube it. It isn't like you will be using it every day.

  28. BUT!! After setting all those "days" or "months" unused they may or may not perform adequately. Mine did not. New Port to the rescue!

Being I never stop thinking I can still do that I bought this unit from C-J's Pony Parts a while back for my current 53 F-100 project. Today it's on there sight for right at $150.oo. I then removed the motor from the gear box and bolted it to my stock arm unit. It was a real No Brainer thing. Yes, it was a bit of sticker shock being they used to be $15.oo items 40 years ago. Hay, fun costs money get used to it. You just gotta add another Zero to the price of everything today from what things used to be, those days are Gone! If $150.oo kills your Wallet you might be playing the Wrong game.
