Good Ol' Fashion Hot Rod Road Trip!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anothercarguy, Jun 12, 2024.

  1. I've never been good at photographing and documenting our road trips, but I so much enjoy when others on the board go through the effort of bringing us all along I thought I would try and make a better effort.

So, a little background. I'm part of a motley group of like minded hotrodders that really enjoy rolling miles on our cars. We're known as the Can-Am Curmudgeons and have members from BC, Washington, Oregon, California and Texas to name a few. This year, we will be identifying ourselves with SWAG (thanks to one of the founding members)! Below is the front and back of the "team hoodie" and there is a matching ball cap to boot!.

For this adventure, we started with approximately 24 members committed to the trip each with a hot rod (a few of the hot rods might dangle their toe into the "street rod" pool, but they're all road warriors none the less and that says a lot in my mind!). Unfortunately, a few members have had to drop out last minute for personal or family health reasons (we are a bunch of old curmudgeons after all...so some of our dinner conversations may revolve around who had what medical procedure since we last met ).

The trip will be just over 2 weeks in duration. For some of the group the trip began yesterday, for others (myself included) the adventure will begin tomorrow morning. We are all gathering and connecting in Auburn, Washington, tomorrow where the fun, food and frivolity will begin. Our trip will include rolling miles eastbound to take in the Sprint Boat races in St. John (check it out at https://www.webbsslough.com/theSlough.html), followed by cruising many country roads and checking out sites, shops and points of interest along the way to the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Pueblo Colorado on the following weekend. We will then explore some amazing roads of Colorado and southern Utah before we all split again and find our respective ways home. I'll try and keep this thread current and hopefully somewhat interesting (I so admire Jim, @squirrel for his efforts and ability in this regard).

My chosen car for the trip is our '32 3-window...and the thrash to ensure it was ready to roll the miles wrapped up a couple days ago. Hopefully the tools and spares can stay in the trunk!

The bags are packed, the trunk is packed, the gas tank is full and the hotels are booked.

My departure will be around 5:30 tomorrow morning...stay tuned and follow along.

  8. I should add that a few of our hardcore travel companions roll in roadsters, and some without tops! So, our fingers are crossed that the weather cooperates as well.

    ROAD TRIP!!!!
    I love road trips!
    I'll be following.

How many miles do you expect this road trip will be for you after its complete?
Will you be joining with others along the path as the trip progresses?

  14. We'll all connect in Auburn Washington tomorrow and then will travel as a group. We're looking at about 4500 miles in total. Should be a lot of fun!

  15. So bummed that I couldn't join you guys this year. Being one of the younger curmudgeons I haven't been lucky enough to retire yet and this year the farm has me pretty much chained down. Have an awesome and safe trip, I'll live vicariously through your pics (missing the BS and the beer unfortunately) thank you for this thread Tim.

Have a fun trip! You’ll have the stand out car in the Ferry line up with all the regular 5:30 AM commuters

In 2019 we had the pleasure of meeting up with the Curmudgeons during the Victoria Deuce Days. Tom Whiffen took us to a dairy farm gathering and then up to Bamnff. The Reverend Green put on a show. Great times and great memories. The Curmudgeon’s are the best.

Sounds like fun! Wish there were some folks around here willing to go places, not necessarily across the country but just out to go eat in a town or two away! Seems like everyone, myself included, is just too busy.

  22. That's funny!!...Both Tom and the Reverend Green are 2 of the late cancellations this year. We'll miss them on the trip for sure!

Hope you can follow along vicariously on the thread Ed. I'll try and do it justice.

Cool that so many are in on this trip. Maybe some will learn from it and quit using their rides for local trips only. What I refer to as "ZIP CODE CARS" They don't leave their zip code area

Wouldn't have a car this year but plan on stopping in at the Pueblo show

  27. So every journey requires the first step...in this case, heading down the driveway.
    20240613_054829.jpg
And my view for the next 15 days...on my way to the ferry...because I live on an island.
    20240613_054927.jpg
I made the 6:20 ferry...full of commuters...and one bright red deuce.
    20240613_061825.jpg
The first 30 or so miles I'll be solo...but will be connecting with a fellow Curmudgeon before heading south to the border.
