I have a 36 and mine doesn't have that middle bow between the rear and front.

unscrew the windshield and pull the levers down below the wood bow and she should go.

it does take a little wiggling as it collapses you move the top material and push slightly down as you go

"'39 convertible top lowering instruction #3; Unsnap fasteners around back curtain (Window) and drop into package tray. This is after #1, lowering the door gl*** and #2, unsnapping the 4 fasteners located above the door gl***. "
A insert from a Early Ford V8 forum post. Do you have extra fasteners still attached along your rails?

Don't know how similar to yours it is, but the last around the last 3 minutes of the video shows them putting the top down.
