Yeah, there’s 32 spark plugs in there. No joke.

Boing.. The red light just brought to mind a "funny" one.
SW. NY state, morning, rise from my Freightliner bunk.
Young driver next to me can't crank, weak batteries.
Of course I always travel with proper jump cable.
Briefly he mentions how nice my tractor is.
I agree and say as how it has mucho computerware controls.
So I hook cables to one of my batteries.
Walking around to his truck, to connect him up,,, I see him with the jump clamps showing his buddy that I made a good connection, by scraping them together.
The light show was reflective of my interest in asking if, he did not just hear me say that my tractor was all computerized!????
When I turned the truck in after several months, the only message from the dash was 'winken blinken. and Nada'.

Why? Was it a spark plug brand thing? I know some don't like Champion.

When I was in high school my mom traded in her '57 Dodge Red Ram hemi stick in on a '60 Ford Sunliner 289 stick. I was by then in charge tune ups on her cars. When she traded in the '60 for a 289 Cougar 4 speed it had the same left rear spark plug it had when she got it. No Character I guess but it ran fine.

I had a cousin that had a 312 57 Ford. He dropped it off at the service station where I worked. Said he would give me $ 5.00 to replace the 3 plugs he couldn't get to. Another time he dropped off a 6 CYL Falcon for a oiling kit to be installed in the valve cover. I pulled the vv cover and was waiting for the kit he was to bring me. He showed up for the car with no kit. I was going to put the cover back on but he insisted that there was no need. Comes back about a week later and it was oiling as it should. Guess it just needed some fresh air.

In the early 1970's. my late brother-in-law (RIP Bob) had a second job, as a light duty mechanic, in a gas station. I stopped by one night, and he showed me a car with a frozen spark plug. Ford Fairlane with a 221 V-8 (to the best of my memory). The car was on the lift. He put a wrench on the plug, and pulled with all his might, lifted his feet off of the floor.

Ford saved a lot of money on spark plug gaskets…. Interference fit can be a good or bad thing.
Opposite story. My brother never was much for cars. His wife had a very nice red 62 Comet convertible when they got married. I got a call from her that he did a tune up but it didn’t run right. My wife and I went over to see them the next Sunday and she asked me to look at it. She gave the keys and went to their garage. My brother stayed in the house. 10 minutes I came back in and said it will be fine. She asked “What did you do? I didn’t hear it start or run. “ I took out the first plug to look at the gap which was ok. It was almost loose. Apparently they were so tight he had a hard time getting them out so he didn’t tighten them enough to get a good ground. I just tightened them all as I knew that was the problem…. I don’t think he ever touched another car again.

Back in the 70s, I did a lot of tune ups at the gas station I worked at. There were an amazing number of vehicles that came in for tune ups that had the hard to get at plugs that were much older then the rest of the plugs in the motor. Apparently, that was a common deal, change all the easy to get at plugs, and the old plugs at the hard to change places were still supposed to be OK. A few of those plugs from the hard to get at locations were missing the bent metal electrode completely, or were so fouled out the entire end of the plug was a mound of hard goop. Most of those rides got new plug wires as well. When the plug can't fire, the spark has to go someplace.

Don't have a lot of funny car stories but have car stories of my dumb ass cousin. He had a orange 68 GTO rag top that was a little on the rough side. It had a large hole in the black top that flapped in the wind. He decided to fix by painting the roof with brown glue that you use to put down flooring . Then he placed a white table cloth over the hole , this is the kind you would find on a table at a pizza joint. When he passed away his 2 sisters picked out some songs to be played it his funeral. The best was the country song " Pretty good at drinking beer ". I miss him !
