    Hello,

Here is a custom truck that looks like a toy. As a matter of fact, I am still struggling with the completion of this project I started as a 2020 Christmas Project for our Granddaughter. I had several ideas and they are still sitting in our new garage, model car drawer, waiting to be finished. But, as we all know, time flies, the pandemic could be the blame, the progress was not going as fast as planned, and there were other things to do at the time.

Without creating a new angle to the story, here it is posted after a March 2020 facts sheet. From the start of the pandemic woes gave myself plenty of time to finish the project by Christmas. That never happened, despite the fact that I was very excited remembering the time when she actually sat in the ice cream truck with a giant smile on her face.

    PREVIOUS POST:

When our granddaughter was staying with us almost 5-6 days a week from 6 months to around 4th grade, we went all over So Cal to see the sights, enjoy the beaches, the playground climbers, and the cool shaded parks for picnic lunches. Of course, what girl (wifey, too) does not like to go shopping for anything at anytime? We had to tone down our buying spree, otherwise, our toddler granddaughter’s toy box, clothes rack and Barbie collection would fill up her tiny closet really fast. But, there was not anything wrong with just going shopping, too.

One day, we were all walking around the Newport Fashion Island shopping center. They had just instigated a cool water fountain that shot water balls up in the air, while little kids ran from one edge to the other. After spending a good amount of time, we decided to continue on our exploration. It was hot and the shaded center areas were perfect to sit and relax. But, who would have predicted that a cool looking Chevy pick up truck converted to an Ice Cream Truck would be front and center of this shaded area?

Not only did they sell the best ice cream we have tasted in a long while. But, it was the Chevy Truck that caught our attention. It had a White Pearl base, Cragar S&S wheels, a cool lowered stance and those bright raspberry-purple flames on the hood and fenders. It was a great looking custom, converted, pick up truck.

Upon asking our current teenage granddaughter if she remembered that cool truck, she beamed and said… YES! Not only did she like the great ice cream and our exploration wandering trip, she definitely remembered that cool purple flamed, ice cream truck. She said that those flames were like those that I always drew on everything, including restaurant table tops.

So, I wanted to surprise her in these coming months of “locked in place” and possible “all day- on line, high school learning” with a cool little 1/64 scale version of that long ago memory from our ice cream rest stop at the Fashion Island Center.

So, at this rate, I may get it finished by the time she graduates from college in 3 years. Ha!
