Cool. I saw Mike Burkhart run a couple of times in the early '70s - Thunder Valley Dragway, Marion SD. Never heard "The Professor" nickname for Kelly Chadwick but I think it fits. He sure taught everyone how to put on a show! Thunder Valley Dragway - early 70s. Thunder Valley Dragway was my main stomping grounds for drag racing back then, about the closest track to me. Being a few hours away I never made it that often but there was always a great show of regional heavy hitters as well as the occasional touring pros.... Near lane, Smith Bros and Fetrow out of Mpls-MN Again, early 70's - Near lane, Roger Guzman's "Assasination" - I believe Denver CO area? Far lane, Pusch & Cain Mustang. I think it was called the "Trojan Horse", and out of the KC area? Another shot of a Pusch& Cain (LH lane) vs Assassination matchup. You'll note the unpainted body, as I recall a body latch had failed and the body flew off during a previous run - not sure if it was here or at a previous race - and they had just replaced it. GREAT pics here - thanks all, keep 'em coming!
A few more recent shots taken at Grove Creek Raceway, 1/8-mile track a couple hours west of the Twin Cities. This was "Night of Fire" special with the "Geezer Gassers" vintage gasser group and a few nitro cars in the mix as well. Doc Halladay's "Telstar" nitro funny: And, "the hit"! Smoky burnouts included, no extra charge! And this is a gennie survivor, the "Cox Pinto" originally campaigned by Bill Schifsky out of the Twin Cities. At this point it ran an injected big block Chevy. Here it is, back in its early racing days.
