Self, you’re an A-hole for bringing the facts to light. No one wants to hear the facts.

  4. Chad s,

I'll try to help you one more time...

I believe the problem the HAMBers are having is trying to understand why you'd ask a question like "So who is Bo Huff anyway?"

It seems almost ironic that anyone who is into tradional rides as you claim would make that statement?!

If you're just bashing OSR and CKD (hopefully their not your only source of information) Maybe you should put down the magazines and get back in the garage.

    To answer your question:
I don't know Bo Huff personally, but when I met him a few years ago...He seemed like so many other guys who live and breath traditional rod or customs. At the time OSR wasn't out and CKD hadn't changed hands yet.

Good luck with your quest for knowledge...

Im not trying to bash OSR/CKD. Their magazine has a following I guess, and I do look at their magazine, along with several others of which I prefer, but I certainlty know their faults (which just may outweight their strengths, but I do find good info in all of the magazines that try to aim towards the traditional crowd), and take their information with a grain of salt. Sorry for trying to find out more about the guy on the HAMB, but......

The few older builders I know personaly, who have been around traditional customs for decades, knew nothing of the guy.

  8. Chad s,

    Stop apoligizing?!
We get the idea, nobody you know in Baltimore, MD has heard of Bo Huff.
So who are some of the local guys in your area known for their traditional rods or customs?
Is Luke Karosi, Frankie Ingrao or any others more common names in your circle???

Is Bo Huff the new partner of LVMS and Rockabilly Rod Reunion this upcoming weekend?

    http://lvms.com/schedules/strip/506614.html

I know the Road Devils are not sponsoring it this year ( HAMB post), I was wondering if he is the new sponsor. Seems he will be hosting both kickoff and wrap up parties?

sounds like a good time either way.

I know that Luke Karosi does Kustoms Illustrated because i buy his magazine, but Im not framiliar with Frankie Ingrao.

Look, Im 22 years old. Ive been into cars since I was a little kid, always into 50's cars in general. It wasnt untill I was able to get my first real old car (I always built models when I was younger) 2 years ago that I really became interested in traditional customs. Im building my 47 ford in the direction of an early 50's custom (besides the fact that its bagged). I have exhausted my research into everything from appleton spotlight variations to traditional interior materials, trust me, im not just some scenester thats acting on some trend (Im not implying that anyone accused me of such). To doubt my level of interest in traditional customs because I dont know who Bo Huff is, is pretty unfair. A few people have popped up in this thread who also had little knowledge of the guy.

Pictures in a mag or online usually don't do cars justice. While all his stuff looks great in these photos, seeing his stuff in person really takes you to the next level of comprehending the quality of his workmanship.

I havent seen more than half of those cars...that being said I think I change my outlook on his ideas. Some over the edge, but a few more are megasweet, moreso than originally thought.

The overall message being sent here to Chad is "If you dont know something, whatever you do...don't ask." Thats crap.

Hes 22, and a LOT of ppl (him being only a few yrs younger than me) our age get thier only source of kustom (custom) knowledge from those mags mentioned. They do make him out to be the #1 customizer of all time, with little press to earlier guys...I havent ever seen the Alexander Bros mentioned in either publication...but..thats not what they are aiming for. Also..they dont put that type of work in there of Bo's..its mostly radical (dare I say) tacky stuff. Over-the-edge kustom..thats what they are selling. So he might have worded a few things wrong...call off the dogs...really.

If I didnt know better and read those mags...Id think the same thing. He asked...chill out. If you are so awesome to strike someone down for trying to enlighten thier somewhat uneducated point of view on culture that was born 50 yrs before they were...then most likely just walk away from the computer...because I would assume you are too awesome to need any info that these 16k or so members have to give.

I asked the same question about a year ago with the same intentions. No disrespect, just curiosity. I've simply learned to accept that Bo Huff probably doesn't know who I am either, atleast that's what I am told.

I haven't seen any of his stuff in person, but what I have seen in photos and magazines I like. Have met him the last two years at Viva, and this year he even flagged us down on the highway heading up to Utah after Viva and gave us T-shirts and invited us back to his place. He is a real nice, down to earth guy.
Here is a pic of Bo (middle), Ratstu & "Chopit" from the Beatniks at Viva.

That's not true. I have personally shot nearly every car he has built in the last 8 years. And have been responsible for putting him in about 5 Primedia magazines.

In years past he has been in street rodder( a few times), hot rod mechanix, super chevy (twice) rolls & pleats etc etc etc. The list goes on and on. He has won awards at the oakland roadster show in his particular class etc.

Bo is a close family friend. He paid some of my college tuition, and at points in my life purchased groceries for my family and I when I was a broke ass photo major. And even encouraged me when I was about to give up my major. Some people hate him for their own reasons and I could care less. My wife, kids and I love him.

Most people have not seen half of the shit he has built and sold over the years. OSR and those magazines have never touched some of his stuff, and the big guys at Primedia now associate him with OSR and CKD so they won’t touch him either. Whatever. He'll keep on doin it till the day he dies, cause he loves it and knows nothing else other than cars.

Well, Most of my research actually takes place in books by guys like Pat Ganahl, ive read a lot of his books and other real history books that are out there, the HAMB, and Rik Hoving. I have dug pretty deep into custom history lately. Even had a phone conversation recently with Herb Ogden (of the barris built 41 buick) recently to get some first hand info, he was there! I wanna know all about the guys who created the style.

But I also read Rolls & Pleats, Hop-up, Rod & Kulture, Rod and Custom, Rodders Journal , and others to read about the more current activity.

So when I do not see any mention of some guy named Bo Huff, in any of the above mentioned sources, which are all well written reliable soruces, and then see tons of material on him in OSR and CKD, questions arrise!

True, and he is a very cool guy, don't get me wrong at all on that, he's a kick in the pants to raise hell with, and a nice guy down deep, but despite what you have done for him exposure-wise, he's really not that well known. He doesn't get much recognition other than a small mention of being a builder of a car that's featured....and he is worshipped in OSR and the new CKD.

Winfield, Barris, and those guys cemented their legacy early on by being available, churning out work, getting restyling jobs from Detroit, and contributing tech and how-to's to the magazines in the early days, as well as glad handing the public and running the show circuits with their cars. Bo may be just as old and just as talented, but he didn't market himself the way the others have. Does that make him less of a car guy? Absolutely not. There are many guys just like him that love what they do.

Does that make him less known unless you've met him? Yes, yes it does.

I've read all kinds of magazines my whole life, and until I first met up with him in VLV, I'd never really heard of him either....

It is what it is, and if 22 year old Chad asks a real question, after only learning about Bo in cheesy magazines, and you guys continue to slam him for trivial shit, and he's really just here to learn, then you must all be way cooler and more hard core than anyone on this board. Just like the 50's bro......

Denise, great pictures, thanks for sharing!

Got the opportunity to meet the guy at last years KKOA Spectacular. Bo is a
real kool guy and has a heart for kustoms. I wish Ol Skool Rodz would have
fewer pictures of Bo and more of Sabrina. Sorry Bo, but you have to agree,
    I make a good point.

Do you have to be world famous to have your name on a list next to Winfield, Barris, and the gang? I have met Bo several times and he is definetely the real deal and he surrounds himself with a great bunch of people, Tony Farnetti and Bo go way back, I can hardly wait to see the movie, it's true they are not houseld names but these are guys that inspire new builders and old builders alike. It's not a popularity contest as far as I'm concerned, I have not seen either one of them do an Autozone ad yet but they are both top notch in my book, who cares if the mainstrream media covers them? they don't.

    I would tend to agree.

Give the dude a break, he was just asking a question. Yes, maybe he could have worded the question a little differently, but it's not like he came on here saying "bo huff sucks" or something.
