    Hey guys,
Having some issues with my winter project
Recently rebuilt the engine and trans on my '36 p/u.

283 sbc mated to the stock '36 trans. The engine runs great. I opted to rebuild the trans myself with the help of My father and some research....
Engine is running great, and the trans is awesome.... for the first 1/2 hr.

After the trans warms up, its popping out of 2nd under load, and not meshing after coming to a complete stop and shifting into 1st.
Im running the proper 600 gear oil and have tried shifting to 2nd before putting it into 1st, but there's no difference.
Any insight I could get would be much appreciated
    Thanks!

The clearance inside on the end of the cluster (rear shim) is too loose and makes it pop out of second. Maybe try some regular 90 weight GL-4 gear lube instead of the special 600 for the mesh issue.

2nd gear probably needs rebushed... I bought a NORS 2nd gear, and it was still .005-.007 loose on the shaft. I am sending it to Charlie in NY to have rebushed to match my main shaft.

Does it hold second if you hold it in?
1st from stop......it should slide in if you pump the clutch and tap the gas.....
Sounds normal to me but I’m used to driving worn out stuff.

it does stay in 2nd if I hold it... my primary concern is the mesh going into 1st... thanks. I'll give it a try.

If you put the "new" todays bearings in the cluster gear, they are problematic about failing prematurely.
