on the bottom rib it says Hilbrand eng... the bango is 3 3/4 wide and the snout sticks out, so def. not 101 ... how do you spot a champ??? does it look differant than 102? the rear cover says culver city2
@2FORCEFULL I made this post last night, but I guess I didn't send it. Can you post a picture or two of what you have? H101 no pinion support, uses Model A axle housings H201 Pinion support, uses 1935-48 axle housings H301 much larger 3/4 ton truck, no confusion with 101 or 201 Edit: The one in the picture is a 201 (also known as a V8 case). If yours is like this then that's what it is!
Looks like our posts crossed in the Twilight Zone! Yes, that is a 201. The 201 designation is probably what is smeared on the left side of the casting after "Halibrand Engineering Co" You are correct, the axle trumpets are different than the Model A parts. Since you seem to want the Model A version, I'll take the 201 off your hands. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly. Just to be nice guy, I'll help you with the postage
I'm old and lazy...lotta rear for a Winfield headed B banger..... but it looks cool..shopping around people are nuts with the asking price of a 201 for some reason.. and this one is done and hooked to the torque tube.. kind of a cool ol clunker, no AC< PS< PB.....
here's the car, the rearend probley looks like socks on a rooster, and pretty sure no one here would do it that way, that and I took the 17'' wires off my wifes RPU, also the wrong way for most.. the skinny little tires and such....LOL.. too old to change...
I’m not seeing anything wrong with that RPU. The QC works perfectly, and the wires fit the style. Just make sure you have the little support rings to mount them to juice brakes or you will be cracking the wheels. FYI, your rear cover is an early production by Halibrand and kinda sought after.
not that I would ever sell it, but what would a quick change v8 hilibrand magnesium . big trumpet, torgue tube drive shaft, ready to bolt in with juice brakes and buggy spring rear end go for..... my bet is there's a lot of doe right there...
thanks, I need another one just like it for a project I got going... I figured a lot more for a ready to bolt to trans and put the wheels on... I'd even buy the whole car if it's priced to where I could rob the halibrand from it....
It must be my background in oval track racing, but this idea of a Quick Change being used fo aesthetics is just plan weird. It is a tool, for performance.
Unless you plan to side step the clutch with drag radials on the back, you'll be fine. As others mentioned, there were some early FED's that ran Model A rears.
I've heard you can upgrade the bearings in a 101 to significantly increase the strength even without the pinion support.
