Fortunate to have the 2024 Fairlane Meet happening 20 minutes away..heard there were going to be a significant number of Thunderbolts at the event…it did not disappoint….
Great stuff, thanks for sharing!! Man I want a T-bolt in the WORST way. Even a decent clone will work.
The Stan Rohrig T Bolt was right down the road from me, They wrecked it doing burn outs by there house the story goes. Stan passed a few years ago. They still live in Inwood Indiana and there grand kid are into roundy roung racing.
wow that's incredible. Thanks for posting. 2 questions though. Is that wagon a Thunderbolt? And they seem to be quite rare, genuine ones, what sort of ballpark figure are they worth? I don't think there is any ones down these ways, cheers
In 1964 my father was a visiting professor from Texas A & M teaching for the summer in Denver,Co. Our family was eating at a “drive in type outdoor “burger joint. I was 16 years old in ‘64 and a flatbed tow rig pulled up on our right with a ‘64 Thunderbolt on the flatbed. I was sitting in the backseat and the race car was at eye level where I could clearly see the whole undercarriage and the low headers. The race car on the flatbed was less than 2 feet from my window and I was in awe being that close to a real T-bolt race car. I am pretty sure the door had the name Rick Hern on the drivers door. I actually attended the drag races at Continental Divide Raceway on our maiden venture into Denver. My parents dropped me off at the freeway and picked me up later in the day/first time ever at the drags anywhere unsupervised/what a thrill for a 16 year old kid!!! P.S. the thunderbolt pics were awesome!!
There was a 67 , 427 Fairlane in Cinti . Purchased new to replace the 64 Thunderbolt . Guy still owns both they say . I have seen the 67 many times . The “ Wrecking Crew “
I was at Cars and Coffee this morning and talked to Bill Filson who helped work on the Stan Rohig black T Bolt. I told him about the HAMB website hope he can add some to the article.
Lucky you! Great gathering of probably the quickest Ford ever built. I’ve only ever seen two real ones. Phil Featherston and the maroon MT T-bolt with the hemi head conversion.
Thought I would share this photo of Jake King's Thunderbolt. I do not know what number his car was, or what became of it afterwards. He only ran it one season that I know of. Jake King joined and was the chief engine builder for the famous Sox and Martin Race Team here in my hometown.
