Sorry, this is so last minute, but I just found out about it 10 minutes ago. An auction of Bridley's in southern Minnesota begins to close in just a few minutes. Cars back to the '30s. Here is the link: https://www.hmauction.com/auctions/...FKchXF9A2SlGXYiYRI_aem_VWWusxxfUMQoMlcnhwX94w
I learned about that place by watching a PBS TV show called something like “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. My father-in-law had a ‘56 Cadillac and it was missing some interior parts. I went down there and found the missing pieces. That was about 20 years ago. Although I love old junkyards, that place was kind of a “bowl”, geographically speaking. With all the rain we’ve had lately, it’s probably really swampy right now. Not the greatest place to try to preserve old steel. Nevertheless, I’m glad they did what they did and it’s always sad when places like this close.
Cars are going pretty cheap but they don’t give you enough time to drive and get them if you’re far away.
I believe I went to this yard about 10 years ago chasing a lead on Henry J parts. The only J I found had nothing I could use. Gary
Looks like at least a few cars sold for more than scrap price, glad they at least gave them a chance before they all got shredded. The '57 DeSoto was worth it just for the bumpers. Quite a few looked like typical rusty, picked over junkyard cars though. Maybe with some good bits left, but not necessarily enough to make you want to buy the whole car and take it home to strip it. Shame when stuff like this gets cleared out, but what can you do.
Not too man builders in that bunch. I'd say that what the scrappers didn't get outright were bought for specific parts or as donor rigs. There's a good chance that some local guys got parts that they had been after for years for less than the place wanted.
I just had a look at all 10 pages of what was being offered. Lots and lots won cheap by the same bidders number so i guess that would be the scrappers. Bet the bulldozer/shovel driver won,t be to gentle
somebody got some great deals on that stuff, too bad if it was a scrapper who doesn't give a crap about vintage tin...I don't need anything but I would've bid on some of that if I was closer.
Hopefully there's at least a couple of parts guys who get a chance to buy some bits from the scrappers. The estate of a good friend of mine recently got auctioned off, and as we suspected, some of it went for scrap. But the two scrap dealers I personally met, seemed pretty cool and we got the chance to buy or trade some bits out of their trailers before they left. Hoping that happens here as well, someone there to pick up their car can buy some of the last decent bits left hanging on some of those parts cars.
