As far as affording some of those cars even the 30 cars it comes down to either ratholing the money to buy something specific, selling of something to buy a specific car or going into debt to do it.
Sometimes you have to sell off some stuff to be able to buy what you really want. I'm at that point right now, figuring that I need to sell two interesting buildable engines 66 396 and 56 330 Desoto hemi to buy a specific part I want for my 48.

One of the things I learned with my auction house failure is that market expectations aren’t being met right now.

  13. I bought my Coupe with my 401k money. Couldn't get to it til I turned 59 1/2. My retirement present, lol....

I would imagine some of those buyers are business owners that simply write-off the purchase.
I kinda cheated that way. I built a shit-load of hot rod trucks and wrote them off as a business expense...with the help of my "creative" accountant.
I've always been self employed in the trades, first as a Cabinet Maker and later as a Commercial Contactor (gutting old buildings and remodeling into offices or apartments).
Although I build a number of hot rods "out of pocket" that were not trucks, I was able to build hot rods (trucks) my whole life basically for free. The only drawback was, when I sold one, I didn't get the money...it went back to my company.

I think the NO RESERVE auctions on B.A.T. are worth monitoring. I've gotten some bargains on there recently, including a really nice (OT) 1971 Ford F-250 truck for about half of what I think it's worth. I like the format because there's plenty of photos and videos, plus the comment section is a nice forum that the seller can dip into and answer questions.

The Green 32 roadster is a car with some N W history, I first saw it about 25 years ago in the previous owners garage, where it had been hibernating for many years at that point.
It’s the real deal, and a very nice car
The column shift is too cool
