Hey @Ryan I have only been a member here for 5 years, so that makes me relatively new here. But thanks to your tenacity, and driven focus, its so cool to be able to go back in time, and see what others have seen, when cool events like this happened. That's pretty good handling of the newly purchased drone. Thanks from Dennis, for posting this cool video!
Would love to see the HAMB Drags come back. I have lots of great memories of hanging out there several years.
These reminds me I'd love to see some new HAMB shirts make a come back. I've wore out nearly all the ones I've had for years and years haha
It's a funny world. I've got a buddy that was tired of how Colorado was changing, and took off in his Hot rod to see where he might like to live. Came upon the Hamb Drags, Said: I must be home, moved to Anderson .Been there for 20+ years loves it. I've visited many times, love it myself. Tons of hot rod history. Bring it back Ryan, you will be glad you did.
My 3 favorite window stickers on my OT truck. Left is Seattle Speed Shop, center is the Vintage division of the E.A.A., and the cool H.A.M.B. sticker on the passenger side.
Funny to see this today. Mokan posted this morning that they have cabins and rv slabs 1/4 mile from the track now for rent and I immediatly thought of the hamb drags if on site cabins existed. With a couple years off, a fresh view and a good look at all the new events and races that have popped up the last few years I’d be really curious to see what the hamb drags 2.0 could look like. gives me some ambition to get a new car done in time.
I ran a reliability run event for only 5 years and it can’t even compare to the magnitude of the drags, so I cannot fathom the pressure of the event, and I get the burnout feeling. That being said, the drags was one of my favorite events. Perhaps you could assemble a committee for the sole purpose of delegation. My pitfall is trying to do everything myself. Put people you trust over different aspects and let them run in their lane. On the day of the event you can put on a fake beard and roll incognito enjoying the event because you handed most of it off. I’d be happy to volunteer for a shift if it means making it happen.
Damn. I read the first couple sentences and was ready to call the LaQuinta. Oh well, I’ll be patient.
Resurrecting the HAMB DRAGS would be the coolest thing to happen since the inception of the HAMB DRAGS. I'd have to race my almost stock '41 Merc Flathead (at least 12 sec slower than the T was) but damn it man...
If there’s an outlaw track in Hawaii that will let hot rods run heads up I’m 100% in. Do they sell 116 octane VP there?
I was just telling @lumpy 63 the other night, that I needed a motor for the Fly. It will take me that long to get the funds together after building the Dust Bowl Speed Shop World Headquarters (tm).
I don't miss the planning. I don't miss the logistics. Hell, I don't miss a lot of the HAMB Drags. But the day of? Oh, I actually sort of miss that chaos... The biggest problem is that I've reached a point where the only place I truly enjoy is my little hut in Hawaii. And thanks to the godforsaken school calendar, the only stretch of time I can actually bask in that solitude is the summer. The rest of the year, I'm shackled to the grind... wishing I wasn't in Texas... or anywhere else for that matter.
As long as it’s not Saturday, October 12th 2024 . . . as MOKAN is the 2nd dragstrip for the “SICK 66” Drag & Drive event:
For what it's worth, your efforts are appreciated. I am a bit jealous though as I have seen numerous photos my wife has taken over the years of her stay in Hanalei Bay, our friends invite her every couple of years to their condo. I'd be happy in a little grass shack as long as my roadster was parked in front.
I like the idea but I have a few suggestions. Have it in the east this time. Logistics and planning needs shared and I know just the guy you need to talk to is Lloyd. @Lloyd’s paint & glass He puts on a hell of a get together and loves every minute of it. I too think early fall would be a great time for us and you.
"...shot with my freshly unleashed Phantom 4 drone back in 2016. The details are hazy now, which made the footage all the more mesmerizing." The details of the HAMB Drags are always a little hazy... -Abone.
I took this photo a few minuets ago. The last HAMB Drags windshield sticker. It is still on my windshield. I miss the HAMB Drags .
