I have shared our local Wednesday evening cruise in at PIR in Portland, tonight we went to another weekly event. This time in Hockinson, Wa at Alderbrook Park. It is open to about anything and $5 per car load. They have food, drinks, mini golf, paddle boats, swimming, bouncy houses, and a bunch of nice cars on the grass. At 6:30 we stand, remove our hats and honor our Veterans with the National Anthem. This is how we roll.

My kids were in town from Virginia so I threw them the keys to my 442, my wife drove her pickup and I took the roadster.

Life doesn’t get a lot better than this. Get out there and soak up some hot roddin! And take your family!

Oh, and this is my grand daughter enjoying the rag top. She asked me to build her a pink convertible. What a great evening.

  3. If you can, build a pink convertible for your grand daughter. It will mean a lot to both of you.

  5. Thanks so much. I don’t understand the people who keep saying that this hobby is dying. Looks pretty lively in your area on a night with good weather.

Yes grandpa, a pink roadster. With your track record it might be an AMBR contender. How about a 32, with flames? Should be popular. ;)

That's a big turn-out for a weekly event but I assume that it only happens in the Summer. Lots of nice cars and lots of variety. Thanks for the pics and it is evidence that our car hobby is not dying.

I've been to Alderbrook a few times in the past, and it's a great venue with lots of shade on hot days. And the food is way better than at Beaches!
Haven't been there in a couple years, and I really need to make the drive again soon. The last part of the drive is really very scenic too!

I saw that thread and it is a matter of perspective I suppose. If you think bout it, we all are dying with every breath we take. You can bemoan that or revel against it and enjoy life. To some they see the hobby is dying, I see it thriving and seek out people of the same mind set. The family friendly park idea of Alderbrook brings kids and teens into our hobby. My Grandaughter is only 5 and she loved the cars (and bouncy houses and the lemonade fountain, and the kettlecorn, and the little train...) Her favorite was a pink mopar that the owner let her sit in. My son was never into the car thing, but he had a grin you couldn't wipe off after footing that 442 around all evening. And my wife, never a car person, had a blast last night. She was scared driving her truck for fear she would hurt it, but she is into this hobby now. Dying? I won't let that happen on my watch!

This was my first time up this year myself, Fridays are a busy night at our place it seems. I golf on Fridays normally, so I have to get an early tee time to make the park by 4:00. Although cars were still showing up when we were leaving. As the shadows of those huge fir trees shade grounds all the chairs come out and people sit around enjoying the summer evening. It truly is an awesome event. And you are right, the food is excellent! My wife had a pulled pork sandwich that was stuffed with meat, my daughter (a recovering Vegan) had ribs and my pepper bacon burger was tasty.

Hopefully I'll see you up there one Friday this year, your car is easy to spot.
Her second favorite car was an elky with flames. She had never seen a flamed paint job before, and she thought it looked cool. You may be onto something there.

The DJ plays tunes but it isn't loud. Not all surfer music either, "Red Solo Cup" seemed to be a crowd fave.
If any of you are around on a Friday night, the gates open at 4:00 all summer long.

I was at the Camas, Wa. car show in downtown yesterday and just parked my '39 in the staging lot as I didn't want to get stuck inside the downtown area.
I was really amazed at how many families attended that show yesterday! I saw very few guys walking around together, and far more couples with their kids walking the show! More than I ever see at almost any other event. Kinda made me smile to see so many young kids excited about all the classic vehicles there!

Bill, did you play Mini Golf ? Thanks for showcasing this great event, with an even better setting. I heard Wayne Miller's Roadster found a new home, good to see it out !

I played Maxi golf! 7 one putts for an 81. Not my best score but the bet of the season. I have 5 putters I rotate through (kinda like your cleaver collection), I 'm back to the one that makes me money and not just looks good in my bag.

This roadster was the best of show the other night. What a treat.

That is the sort of thing that ensures car events will continue and interest will survive. Yes, I had to wipe off some sticky finger prints off my cars when I got home, so what. When our hobby takes itself too seriously that when it is showing signs of needing life support.

    Great attitude!
I have some acquaintances that get all nervous when kids try to get close and look at their cars. I do the opposite, and go to the parents and ask if their kid wants to climb behind the wheel and see how it is to sit inside.
Cars are made to be enjoyed, and sticky fingerprints wash right off, just like dead bugs do.

Bingo. One little toe headed boy was trying to look inside the roadster and an older brother ran up and pulled him away. I asked them if they wanted to sit in it and have daddy take a picture and they anxiously agreed. I talked to dad a while, Apostolic Lutherans, we have a huge community of them in north Clark County. The three blond boys were only 1/3rd of his kids, the rest were at home. The older kids help raise and younger ones, truly wonderful people. They made an impact on me, hopefully I made one on them. All for a $5 car show and a walk in the park.

BTW, that looks like a great family, it’s good to have those times. My son is in Virginia, also.

  22. I was just saying last night I need a panther pink mopar in my life. A pink mopar a body would fit the bill nicely for your granddaughter

The owner that let my GD sit in his car said "you want to buy it? My wife hates the color".

I must be looking at too many poorly spelled parts ads, I thought you were gonna tell me you had a problem with an EDELBROCK carb!
