After 9 months the car drove again, now with the fully reconditioned front brakes. Got to the converted pigsty early but realized I assembled a couple of springs upside down, which meant blood and some expletives. Then went on a 30 mile test drive, slowly bedding the shoes in and stopping to adjust. There's still very light grabbyness on the LH side (only at very low speed - in general the car brakes straight and true) but I think it's just a question of driving the car more and allowing the shoe and drum to resign themselves to being wedded. Other than that, all was well, it was a good occasion to test the infra-red thermometer and to me all temperatures (exhaust, water, bearings, drums, g/box and diff) were fine. So next week I'll borrow the dealer plates again and drive for a bit longer and then it's inspection time.

  9. I hit a "gasser" themed cruise night last night, got to see my racing buddies and they got to see the Henry J, which hasn't been seen in 10 years.

  10. Finishing up the interior, a little bit of patina with what appears to be the original back seat, few wrinkles in the headliner, gonna take the car out soon, hopefully sitting in the sun helps iron them out 20240618_102439.jpg 20240617_190433.jpg

Continued with driving the car around with the aim of bedding those drums shoes, still got a slight pull to the left even after adjusting. Frustrating and it was 90°f

I know this is a traditional forum but those drums will have to go at some point (by the way, Kelsey-Hayes 4-piston discs were available on my car under FIA rules back in 64, so) - have an appointment with a guy who does type approvals (yes we need this here) tomorrow about swapping to discs...

Couldn't find an exhaust manifold for my little Chevy 153 four banger so I built this tri-Y header, including the flanges. More hours in it than I care to think about. Still need to make flanges for the outlet and plan that the exhaust will go under the pan and run down the passenger side to get it out of the way of steering and (probable) under-floor brake master cylinder. The welds aren't exactly examples of my best work but I guess it'll still get the exhaust where it needs to go. Still had a bit of welding to finish when I took the photo, and will do some shaping to make the flanges less "boxy".

Odd thing is I sold the car that I had bought and built the engine for, so as of now I don't have any plans for it. Just a stock, cheap rebuild but did have Oregon cams put a mild performance grind on the camshaft. I had The Machinist I use shave about .020" off the top of the block to bump the compression a tad, and he did a nice multi-angle valve job on the head.

  16. Saw on that social media site where someone added a "helper" to their trunk strut, reached out and found the particulars on the gas cylinder, and ordered one. Put it on and it really makes the lid positive even just being on one side.

Myself and three others got into our old cars and drove over 600 miles to the BTTF’s in Minneapolis . Had a wonderful weekend in spite of the rain. We have made this trip literally dozens of times and will continue to do so until we can’t!

I found a couple direct bolt 15 x 10 Rocket wheels , no broken centers and no damaged lug holes. At some point in their existence they had been painted silver. I got all the paint removed and they have the perfect look to match the rest of my truck. You know " Shit Box " IMG_1453.JPG

100_1721.JPG 100_1723.JPG 100_1721.JPG 100_1721.JPG 14 year project coming to a close. Many of you understand how life gets in the way. I'm not unique. I keep plugging away on this car, Had some s/s laying around and made the rear bumper and front nerfs and very pleased with the results. Also completed the remote horn and amazed at how well it works. This week end I hope to adjust the e brake (I don't like to drive a car I build without a properly working e brake)

  29. Did my annual 4th of July yard line up for the the people walking by heading to the parade that runs a block away, my neighbor had his el'camino out too.

    20240704_112217.jpg

Afterwards we both did a few burnouts out in the street for our other neighbors, then for some reason the J's starter wouldn't engage to get it back in the garage, so it had to be pushed.

The little Nova is really coming together and looking GREAT! If I'm not mistaken it's for your wife? If I got that right I'd bet she's getting pretty excited!
