Technical Radiator fan question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Spike788, Jul 3, 2024.

  1. See attached pictures. Had to remove radiator fan and in doing so one of the mounting studs broke off so upon reinstalling I resorted to using zip ties to secure it on the passenger side. Will these hold? They're not going through the core itself. I've no doubt they will hold the weight of the fan but is there any concern that the zip ties will melt being so close to the radiator? Sorry if it's a dumb question. They're rated for up to 185 F. I know they make those plastic fan mounts that go directly straight through the core so I'm wondering if these will withstand the heat?

They’ll cope with the radiator’s heat.
You can quite successfully weld broken plastic using a soldering iron and zip ties as the filler rod.

They will hold, but use double of them as a backup, there is quality problems with some of them.
Sometimes they snaps off just trying to use them

The plastic ones will eventually get brittle and break.

Use Bob's stainless steel zip tie suggestion.
You could also make new metal holding brackets and pop rivet them to the shroud.

  9. I ended up using the stainless steel ties. Thanks fellas. Appreciate it.
