Hot Rods T roadster survivor at good guys desmoines?

Hey guys,

saw this pop up a couple times in coverage from this weekend and wondered if anyone had more photos or information on it?

has a lot of things on it that make me think it’s a surviving car that was gone threw and put back on the road. Super neat either way.

 

Sure looked like a survivor to me. Said on a sign that it had a T5 in it now.

 

so it trans gendered????

Ok they had a article on the seat that I skimmed though.
If I remember right, it said it was built in 51 or 54 by a couple of brothers.
But that's about all I can remember...

Awesome car! I’d take that T5 and power gen alternator and throw them both in the woods but it’s better than still sitting in the garage hopefully they drive the wheels off it

 

Nice preservation of a T' on 32 rails, not a fan of the grille shell quite so far forward but an easy fix if one dares to alter history.

 

@dirt car i have a feeling the grill is in the “stock” or close to position but it has a spring in front axle which makes it 1: feel way further forward 2: more likely to be an old build.

seems like you see that super often in magazines and in old survivors but rarely in new builds.

Tim, I couldn't tell by the postings if it has a front of the axle spring, seems many early builds were the subject of this type of axle swap & often wondered if rather than swapping 39-48 juice brakes spindles etc., they thought it quicker & easier to throw the complete axle in & be done, still not an overwhelming fix. Beyond the forementioned there appears to be an arm load of room behind that grille shell so not totally convinced, I'm only hoping the proud owner can tolerate us, still a neat car by all means. I spoke with him after the awards. It was built by his brother I think he said in 59-60. He found it years later in a barn. A woman who owned the barn planned to demolish the barn with the T inside. The brother bought it and freshened up what needed to be. It has new wiring, the mentioned t5 tires hoses etc. very cool car.

 

Seen it today at GG’s awards. Didn’t think to take pictures. Built in 1958 and put in barn in ‘62.
Sat until last few years. Owner of barn was going to tear it down and leave car where it sat.
Present owner rescued it.
Looked mostly original, except for transmission and power gen. Looked the part with homemade brackets and non perfect welds.
I have nothing negative to say about it. I seen him driven it.

I have a close buddy that works for Goodguys and I usually get a picture or two from him with his favorite car from each show. These are the pictures he sent me today.

and this is the text he sent along with the pictures.

My favorite car below. Guy built it in the late 1950s. He parked it in a garage in 1964. The guy passed away a year ago, and the widow tells the younger brother that she's going to demo the garage with ALL the contents . STOP.....DONT.....ILL BE OVER TOMORROW MORNING. younger brother (probably mid 70s) picks up the car, rebuilds the engine, and goes through everything. He debuted it here in Des Moines

 

What a great save and perfect era correct Hot Rod. '27 bodies on '32 frames are a terrific combo.

 

Oh kick ass the hamb comes through again!

@dirt car from the guys I’ve talked to it was a fast way to get the car low. Though in these photos it does look like the spring is over top. Possibly with the main leaf bent before the eye to get it even lower.

thats a phenomenal story and I’m so so glad it was saved from being rubble! Hopefully we get to see it around in the years to come.

So cool, glad to see them still coming out of the woodwork.

 

They must have modified the frame. The body follows the frame very nicely. That is a lot of trouble to go to get it looking like it does. Great old rod.

 

He also modified the body to fit the shape of the frame.

 

Yeah, the bottom edge of the body was spread to fit the frame. Seemed like a bit of filler in there too. Midwest cars were probably rusty even when they were only 25 years old.

 

Saw a hamb build thread recently
That did that “hood relief” delete on the lower cowl like that to get a little width. Nothing new under the sun it seems! Looks cool
