    Hello,

My wife spotted this bright Orange GMC Panel Van parked on the side of the road. It was a busy street, but for safety ‘s sake, it was on the other side of a grass median curb, protected to the flow of traffic. But, as I was concentrating on the traffic, my wife saw the Orange paint in a field of green and other cars.

It was a GMC Panel van from Montana. Perhaps, out West for a visit to the ocean just a half mile away from the photo location. It had a for sale sign and a side imprint on the wide panel. But, with a few mods, and adjustments, the GMC Panel Van stood out as if at an outdoor car show. Bright sun, blue skies and a colorful paint combo made the old hot rod panel van stand out. The majority of cars on the street were the whites, greys, blacks and silvers. So, one could see this bright orange paint from afar.

The flames were not over done as some massive panel could have had with the whole side open for art or some form of mural(s). The yellow flames were bright yellow, but as it flowed back onto the hood, it melded into together in a fade design. Very nicely done… YRMV

    NOTE:

We had cause to drive back to that area of the coast again, a week later. The Westcoast vacation must have been over or the cool, Orange GMC Panel Van was sold. It was gone in 7 days… It would have been a good platform for one of those panel vans in the current “fad” of “Van life” with the proliferation of the sprinter vans multiplying like rabbits. Except for it being a very cool “Hot Rod” presence…

  4. I was going to post a photo of your 40. In my view, these are some of the best flames ever because they make a bold statement without overpowering the front of the car and the thickness, the variation in curves and the color blends are just right.

    Hello,

One day, my wife was visiting a neighborhood car show along with a tour of some old, classic 40s-50s homes. It was in central OC and it was hot. We split up as I was touring the hot rod section and she was touring the various homes. But, as she was walking past the hot rod section to get to the homes on display, a bright red 1933-34 Ford sedan was sitting in a row of old cars. I had not seen it as I started at one end. She kept walking past the rows of cars and started the old home tour at the next corner location.

She called me and told me about the bright red Ford sedan that I would like. So, as I looked at the current row of cars, I knew something was happening at the other end of the car rows. She sent me a good IPhone photo to prove what she saw. Yikes! A very cool sedan and with a nice set of yellow flames not over done like some other cars we have seen over the years.

The front fenders, part of the grille and hood, along with a minimal design along the front half of the doors all made it look good and stylish. Most folks viewing the flamed sedan looked and walked away. There were some old time hot rod folks still lingering around the sedan as it was very well built and displayed.

So, when it was my turn to view the red 33-34 sedan, it was a nice one as my wife did tell me over the text message and photo. YRMV

My view was a closer inspection and it provided a nicely done fade in colors outlined by a nice color pinstriping and a good fade look. The final touch was the “blue flame” tips that all flames have in real life…

The "red" of Red, White, and Blue... Happy 4th...

  12. It all depends on the car! Style of flames , colors of flames etc. .
One thing I do know for sure, you don’t flame a 300 SLGullwing!

I took these at York Street Rod Nationals and they seemed to match this car.

    IMPERFECT FLAMES

When I first dragged home this Chevy Panel, an old hippy van, it had the WORST flame job I had ever seen.

I did fix that...and a few other things;)

  17. I painted flames on my '50 Shoebox Ford in 1962 with a couple of red and yellow rattle cans over white primer, probably looked like shit but I liked 'em, wish I had a photo. My vote is for McCoy '40, I wore that old mag with the '40 cover out looking at it in High School when I was suppose to be studying.

There is something about 'Ohio' flames that does it for me...
I sketch them on the edges of all my worksheets and inked them up my leg.
(Apologies for the billety pic, but its better than a pic of my leg...)
