Its wild how fast they can slap these structures together ! Its all the sub contractors & small shit that becomes the most time consuming. Cool to see it in process. Thanks for sharing it with us.
So, a few progress pics. We went to dinner last night in our town and they just recently built a new Chilis. When we got done eating we noticed 3 big bags with Monkey Grass in it left by the landscapers that were working in the flowerbeds. They had a note in them to take them. Well, my wife never turns down free flowers etc. We weren't really wanting to plant stuff at the Headquarters yet, but hey, free is free. So, I braved the 100* heat and dug a bunch of holes in the rock hard ground.
More windows went in today. Not much visual progress, other than that. Sheet metal showed up. Maybe next week we sheet everything.

Yeah, I should have enough money to build out the framing and buy the wood....after that I may be dead in the water for a while.
Big milestone today. East wall is sheeted. Walk doors are installed. The trim is installed around the garage door openings.
Thanks. It will be a little overwhelming until they get the roof on and trim etc. contrasting colors. Make it look less like a grow house and more like a house.
I’ll be glad to see the porch go on also. It’s sort of my deal. I have always wanted a giant porch. I think this qualifies!
Gaining on it. Hoping they at least finish the roof today. If you are you are wondering, the roof is black, the trim is black, the guttering is all black and the porch roof is black. The garage doors will be black and probably the walk doors. We will do a few other things to offset the massive wall of white, but in Oklahoma, I would have to double the size of my AC units.
That building is HUGE! I could never afford to finish that much space how I want to live, but kudos to 'ya! Those without dreams never have dreams come true!
I’ve been planning for this for the last 30 years. I really have. I figured it would never happen, but finally it is coming together.
Well, I have almost as many year of dreaming and planning and have gone through 2 different home plans, and the shop addition. I originally did work for a log craftsman on his website, and in return he designed me what would have been my dream, but alas I was laid off. As I watched my dream fade away, he built a 25'x25' hunting cabin. Knowing I have a 1600 sq.ft. minimum to build (HOA preventing people from building non-permanent homes such as mobile homes), I enlarged it to make the main and 2nd floor 1600 sq. ft. In the end I paid for all of the space to be living space, so the home will have 2408 sq.ft. That includes the full walkout basement, more living space than I have now. Also, in the end I was not sure if that home would have even fit on my property, it was '54x'54 with 10' full wrap around porches. That would require like 75x75 of level space, and I don't have that much. As I said, I was lucky to get the shop done, the home is cut into the bluff. You have a great project, I hope you reach your dream! I will do anything I need to in order to acheive mine...there are 2 things I just don't think I can give up in life...my dream with the property I bought 25 years ago, and my wife. I will sacrifice my current home in order to get the dream if I have to...apologies to my wife...You know women, they never know what's good for them... she will love the lake... But that is my fallback, my hope is to end up with both homes...call me greedy.
I can't imagine trying to build something in California. Just the sheer cost of the land would be more than I could afford. Oklahoma is cheap cost of living. It used to be way cheaper, but the old interweb has changed a lot, just due to ecommerce. The goal is to sell my current house and pay 95% of this off. I have about 2.5-3 years before I can retire, so hopefully I can get this all done by then and have it paid for.
I didn’t get a lot accomplished this weekend, just because it was so freaking hot. I did build a rack to hold the 320A meter base. The power company requires the owner build something to their specs. The problem was their specs had this wonky deal built out of unistrut channel. It wasn’t very aesthetically pleasing, so I cobbled together something I had laying around out of 2x2 square tubing. I’m a little anal, so I welded flange nuts in the tubing for mounts. I also added flange nuts for a whole house generator transfer switch. That way when I add the switch, it’s easy peasy. Other than that, not much happened.
That walk door is super slick and just begging for a coat of BC/CC in glossy black. I bet I get over ruled by the design coordinator.
