You're welcome to it, Andy can haul it back home after Lloydfest if you and him work something out.

He called me about an hour ago, engine is out. I told him I'll be over there this week with the trailer. ;)

  4. I would be happy to deliver the rear axle! However, if I have to haul it to KC, there had better be some Gates BBQ in it for me!!!!! Mmmmm! My favorite!!

  5. Oh no! I heard that Jack Stack was good. I have not been there, but would like to try Bryant’s again.

That’s a later 9.3 so it wider. Only 57 was a direct bolt in. Raduis wheel arch’s it is.

A copy and paste for a little insight.
“57 Pontiacs used leaf springs. 58 thru 64 Pontiacs used coil springs. I think Olds used leaf spring from 57 thru 60 and coils thereafter.

From Hollander listings, 57-58 Olds axles are 29 1/8” long and 57-58 Pontiac axles are 29 5/8” long, a difference of 1/2” in length. (Apparently however, the 1958 Olds with air suspension had 29 5/8” axles. I ***ume they used a “coil spring” 58 Pontiac rear end.). 57-58 Olds and Pontiac axles are 29 spline axles.

59-64 Olds axles are 30 1/2” long and 59-64 Pontiacs axles are 31 7/8” long, a difference of 1 3/8“ in length. 59-64 Olds and Pontiac axles are 31 spline axles.

The 57-58 Olds used 2” brakes, the 57-58 Pontiac used 1 3/4” brakes. Both Olds and Pontiacs used 2” brakes 59 thru 64.

The 31-spline 59-64 carriers will mount in 57-58 Pontiac and 57-58 Olds housings but the 57-58’s are 29-spline axles. It is my understanding that when installing a 61-64 Pontiac unit in a 57-58 (and maybe later?) Olds housing, a small amount of grinding of the housing may be required for clearance. I am not aware that any grinding is required when installing a 61-64 Pontiac unit in a 57-58 Pontiac housing.”

The info I found was it's 59.5"? But I'm running ladder bars and coilovers, so nothing I'm doing is a bolt in lol. Yeah I'm gonna radius them though.

Similar in width, and the coil spring suspension, but that's it from my reading.

Jerel told me today that he wants to sell the 264 nailhead and 3 speed that's in his 37 dodge. I told him I'd spread the word and asked what he wants for them. He said he has no idea what they're even worth. It's out of a 1954

He said it's the transmission that was in the Buick. Ran when he pulled it in the barn. That's all I know about it

What gears are in the rear? Will they work as-is?

The rearend is as pulled out of a 62 Pontiac (or plus/minus a year), which has 4 link style control arms, suspended by coil springs. The gears are around 3.0 whatever a big Pontiac sedan had, not drag racing performance gears. I have been hauling it around for several moves and probably had it for 20 years. I finally came to conclusion that I have no projects for it, and hope that it works great for Lloyd. He will likely want to put better gears in it, but it can work for now to get the wagon driving. I'm happy Lloyd has a proper rearend to use.

Are gears available? Or would you need to source from used?
Depending on the cost, Tremec used to make a 5 speed with 5th 1:1 and a low first gear.
No memory of past or current cost though.

Gears are still available, or swap meet used setup pulled out of an older drag car that was updated with a 9-inch or similar.

Lloyd....look up Fabcraft...they've forgotten more about 9.3" rearends than most places. They make all sorts of parts..including new posis...they sell complete center sections, ready to go. Not cheap..but a great resource.

Lloyd, is your 4 speed a wide ratio?
