I think I forgot to mention I did all the side glass and Quarter windows.. new channels and a nice factory green tint to match the front and rear windshields ... All mechanisms work very well and the windows seal and do what they are suppose to do.....
And...... finishing up the Head Gasket debacle on the Black Car. Just doing an Oil and filter change with new Plugs.

  6. I took great pains with my side glass, everything works well. The doors took 1 donor Edsel door, door guts from a Ranchero to complete, all told I'm in for $800 on them. About 90% parts and the rest was for setting the new glass, which I wisely sent out.

Yes.I sent out the glass to be cut and installed into the metal factory channels.... I then bought all the window runs and installed them.
I am about $600 in for the 4 pieces of glass, window runs and the glass installed into the factory Channels.
To be honest.I was a little surprised at the cost... I thought it would be around $350.

Installation I did at home and it went pretty smooth. The vent windows I left alone .. delaminated and all....

  12. I got my glass from ACC, it took them 3x to get the vent glass right, they never asked for the wrong ones back. The glass was wrapped in newspaper... a language I had never seen before. Decoding the "country of origin" on the glass... it came from somewhere I had never heard of.

I forget what exactly my glass guy (now retired ) charged. Something like $75 for all 4 pieces, $125 to do the windshield at my shop.

  14. I break out in a cold sweat when I think about removing my rear glass. I doubt anyone makes new ones and I have only seen 1 used one for sale, a while ago.

Yes. I do too..Thankfully.I have collected several front and rear windshields and .... but I still pucker when installing and always get a few experienced friends to help.....
They make them for this year/model... but its very expensive..... so yea. its a bit nerve wracking.

  16. The '59 one sort of wraps around, the '57 is flatter, easier to work with IMO. I should look around for a replacement, I know the gasket is available.

    011.jpg 012.jpg 013.jpg 014.jpg 015.jpg 016.jpg 017.jpg 018.jpg I want to bring up a point that is used on these cars. any cars.. hotrods,Kustoms .what ever......
So on the 57, 58 Ford,... the door seals (rubber) are THEE WORST to deal with.
You can only get reproductions... and they are thick, awkward and need to use a glue that is just a major PIA and gross.
As a matter of fact,.. if you have spent the time to get your doors and trunk to close perfectly.. you might as well throw all that out of the window.
The doors have to be re adjusted again and they will really be ill fitting. It would be a miracle if you can actually get them to close. It takes nearly 2- years for the rubber to squish and settle.
    Really terrible stuff.
So on both of my cars.... I use an aftermarket very cheap rubber with a 3M adhesive seal on the back.
Skeptical at first.. the price was so cheap. I had to try it.
There are so many styles available and as mentioned extremely cheap.
Really easy to use..... just prep your surface first of any oil, grease or dirt(naturally!)
On my black 57 it was very clean and fresh from the paint shop... so . easy.
The black n White 300, different story.... had to really remove the old remains of the door seals. anyhow.. ...

So,... I wish I had these products with my 32's.... I really would have cut town on the irritable wind Noise and such....
I think these products can be used an any closed car....

    Anyhow ... Thats all.

P.S. Yes. they are foreign made.... but so is pretty much any rubber product...... so.. I really got nothing on that.

  23. So, is this the first time you've used this? I hope you report on the long-term results....

  24. I use a similar product from McMaster Carr. I used Soft Seal before that. I would much rather deal with these products than oem style repros and the glue to go with it. I have used them on 5 builds without issue.

On the black car… nearly 2 years and no issues.(The doors)
    Firm and positive .
And on the trunk of the black car I used OEM repro and I’m still waiting for the truck to seal properly… bulges out horribly.
    Just terrible
On that car the doors and truck were fitted perfectly from the paint shop.Razor Sharp.
Now the trunk fits like shit with the OEM repro seal.

  29. They look great & consistent with the rest of the car!:)

    How about some details?
They look like black vinyl that matches the seats. Are they made of ABS or cardboard or?? I might copy them on my Tudor. :D
