Look up my build threads. It’s about all I do when in the shop.We aren’t known for much follow the leader ir bolt on stuff. As Mick used to say where is the fun/logic in that. Plus we can do it cheaper and better. Sweat and blood are free. lol.
Me and Wes now so that means we both have to pick up the slack. Lol

@choptop40 that's looking good, again this is the kind of stuff I love.

@guthriesmith that counts, love to have a plasma table myself.

@gene-koning please never let negative opinions stop you, I have found I have learned more from those people due to the fact they seem to think outside the box more often, more creativity, different views that open up my eyes to learning. I believe if you reach 1 person, teach 1 person then it's worth it...

@swade41 nice job!! Again this is one of those jobs that could be used for a bumper, smaller tube to make grab handle for a dash etc. Curious about the ends too but seen you answered it in a later post !! Nice job on shifter !! I'll post a couple pics at the end of this posts.

@bchctybob again nice to see different ways to do the same job, using what's available and learning a new way to get to the same place!

@41 GMC K-18 that's awesome ! And exactly what I enjoy! Thinking outside the box then figuring out a way to make it all come together.

@26 T Ford RPU that's some nice fab work, starting from nothing and then having a complete frame assembly. Love that steering wheel !

@Robert J. Palmer love it ! Again having something in your hand but seeing something different then altering, modifying it until it does something totally different than its intended design ! Nice bracket too, I'm going to need to build some for my 440 31' tudor.

@Marty Strode nice work as usual!!

@Mitchell Rish I'll be looking them up !!

A couple pics of my stuff, shifter stand, floor panels, just to go along with what's been posted !!

  6. Had to make a fiberglass bumper skirt for the '40 Plymouth. Made Masonite/pine pattern, took a fiberglass mold off that, then made the fiberglass final part in the mold.

I've probably posted most of these one time or another. To me the fun is in designing and fabricating stuff.

@willys36 that's some nice fab work, and across different materials too. Again knowledge is a cool thing, doesn't cost much and can't be taken away...

@X-cpe you do an amazing job, all in different areas, frame, brackets, panels, etc.
Really dig that shifter! Love how you made detents too!

Guys thanks for posting this stuff, I eat it up, I go over it several times looking at details, how and why things were built in different ways, I'm looking for things I can learn, things I can incorporate and things I can build on and posts like this is feed me !!

I could mock up a story about work I've done but it would be a fabrication.

Does attempting to make panels fit properly and have nice gaps, on a 64-year-old first-generation entry-level econo-car, that has 20ga body panels count?

That door to fender gap issue is original to the car, factory installed!

  16. I turned a $5 dollar swap meet tri-bar coupler for something into a filler neck and gas cap.
Glass domed clock lense, the center of a wheel center cap (interchangeable) and formed the fill neck over a trailer hitch ball with a hammer/dolley lip.

For my T coupe. I took two closed car T dashes, cut the bottoms from both . flipped one to make a bottom and sectioned it. Then married them together.

My 29 RPU will be running Hilborn Injection, and mounting a Moon Tank on a Model A, can be difficult when retaining the stock front Valance. This was my solution. IMG_0620.JPG IMG_9021.JPG IMG_9024.JPG IMG_9025.JPG IMG_9029.JPG IMG_9032.JPG IMG_9035.JPG

@lostone, thank you for the generous compliment. I thought shifters were supposed to have detents. It's a good thing I enjoy designing and fabricating things because there is almost nothing available to fit this car like I want it. The car is a channeled '30 Model A coupster on a stock wheelbase with 2 1/2" exhaust tucked up under the car and over the rear axle all the way to the back. The front corner of the cowl 7 1/2" off the ground without using a dropped axle.
Like you, any post that shows fabrication has my full attention.

I fabricate stuff 5 days a week for my employer , No CNC strictly old school. In my line of work there is no catalogs to order stuff from. Sadly most young people can't operate a manual lathe or mill.

I couldn't find any exhaust that fit so I ended up making my own. I don't think they turned out half bad for my first time.

Dang!! You gents really do some nice fab work ! And I love the thinking outside the box some of you have really pushed !!

@swade41 I gotta say that gas filler is just awesome !! It's a monumental accomplishment!! Gas tank bracket, again, very nice work !!

@Marty Strode awesome as usual !!

@48stude another awesome idea, I've looked at something similar but on the rear inner side panels on my 31'tudor. Turning one over and mating it to the original one in the car, this would give me a nice large panel and reinforcing the mounting areas would give more structure integrity and strength.

@Johnny99 nice drop, infact I'm sitting here going thru designs in my head for building one for my 31'tudor. My problem is I used a 38'ford dash and it's taller than stock so I need to build a very very short drop but I want it to pivot too. Got some ideas I'll check out tonight....

@gimpyshotrods I thought every car built came from the factory with perfect fit and gaps !! Like you I've heard that complaint on many cars I've worked on, factory collision and frame work, complain that the door gaps aren't perfect then I take then around the car to the side I didn't fit and ask them which side fits better ?

Again guys appreciate the posts ! Really appreciate the fab and thinking that goes into these designs !

Hotrod buddy Mike came to me, "Hey you want to flatten the rear crossmember on my 40?" Me, "Uh sure, never done one before but I'll give er a try". Poked around on the HAMB a bit and found Marty flattening a crossmember and plagiarized, kind of. Marty did his in the chassis, Mike brought me a crossmember and I built a fixture on a heavy channel, clamped that to my fab table and started cutting. Worked out OK.
