I don’t watch a lot of tv or streaming media, when I do it is cowboy movies and sci fi movies definitely not car shows. After these comments I had to go look this guy up.
Celebrity envy, hardly. Didn’t know he existed. And this thread asked the question yea or nay about the car. My answer is nay. That is not bashing. That is my opinion requested by the OP.

    Back to McClintock.

When I build a car it' to please me. If someone else don't like it, tough cookies.
1960 I road to school with a neighbor in his black '48 Ford sedan. It was covered with spiders and webs. One cool Sedan.
I only read a few threads on this site Way too much whining for me. ( he says as he whines )

I have watched a few episodes of Counting Cars and I believe that 1932 was built by Danny Coker and his father together when he was still in Detroit. To me this is precious time well spent between a father and son. I believe that Danny Coker's father has passed on. I would think that the 1932 coupe has very high sentimental value and will never be sold or nothing on the car will not likely be changed.
To me the car looks just fine the way it is. A fitting tribute to the memory of Danny Coker's father. I really don't see why some people feel the need to bash someone else's car.

    Pretty much.
Somewhere lack of creativity or imagination was mentioned; well, recreating a "traditional/period correct" hot rod or custom does not require that, you are just following a formula.

Geez Mark, that's pretty harsh! It ain't that far gone IMO.
Full hood (louvered), block hugger headers, straight spreader, black steelies, a box of red scotch-brite, # of your choice on the doors in white shoe polish (w/runs), and your right in the wheelhouse of the "Bones" vibe!:D
Give it to me, I'd take it!

ok, maybe I should have said if you gave it to me and said you can't sell it or change it.... It is still in my opinion a mishmash of eras and genres ...... street rod, rat rod, muscle car. It just doesn't work for me, and I have no idea who this guy is and I don't care, asking for opinions about a car on a traditional hot rod forum always ends up being a shit show when said car is not a 100% traditional build.... this is just my opinion and in the real world doesn't mean anything. I am quite certain that the owner of the car is happy with it and that is what it is all about

  12. Nah.

Like Mark said it’s confused stylistically and there’s nothing interesting about it that would make me stop and look closer.

IMHO; If it is a fiberglass body, then that is the only thing that can't be changed. And that is enough to turn me off. Everything else can be changed to taste.

Danny is a musician, a biker, and hot rodder. While his style might not suit a lot of folks, it’s a cool blend nonetheless. He’s also got a killer 57 Chevy pickup and a 53-56 Effie, both on the ground with copious flame jobs. He employs a couple of great creative painters, although one is pretty kooky. He does a lot of buy, redo, and flips as well as customers cars, but ends up keeping some of them. Like any artist, his stuff is subject to public scrutiny. I’m not taking up for him or endorsing him, just putting out what I know for you folks that never watch car shows on TV.

    Thank You, BamaMav.
Very good info, plain and true.
I went through a phase when getting my tractor serviced,
The TV in the shop waiting room was usually on 'Counting cars'
Impressive was how many cars he has in his colection.
Also the Length He'd to go, for a given outcome.

His car, doesn’t matter what others think. If you can’t say something nice about him or his car better to say nothing at all. Your mileage may vary.

It would be kind of odd to qualify this to "only positive criticism requested".

  19. While I agree many of his cars match the cheesy 70s/80s Vegas biker vibe I honestly like him a lot better than foose. Foose may have more talent (no doubt) but Danny doesn't do the same build EVERY time like foose. Dunno how many cars you can do with Bondo spoilers (yes foose did do one) "foose" fade, shaved door handles, and "one off" wheels that look like an oversized AutoZone hubcap

this is what happens when you start a build and have no end goal.

its hard to say you got lost, if you never had a destination.

60s,70s,80s,90s and rats all represented in one build.

McClintock, is pretty new for me, I like the 50's 1/2 hr TV westerns, that shows my short attention span.

Hokey Smokes guys, I’m not qualified to critique a traditional rod, but I know what I like and don’t like. I like this car, I understand the red lines aren’t traditional- more muscle car. Were caps not painted back in the day ? IDK,
The show I like, fairly light hearted- no major drama, kooky kinda like Roth and Ratfink, Danny seems genuine on the show, some cool cars on the show mostly off topic here.
The first 32 fiberglas body was 1959 so that is traditional. If I would’ve built this car with my Dad it would stay how we built it and I damn sure wouldn’t care who doesn’t like it.
I would love to own this car

I'd walk past it, too. It is finished, so I can't be too critical. But as post number 54 on this thread, my contribution is put me in the don't give a shit category.

Not sure what the point of this thread is. If this is because someone has a tv show so they become a target of criticism, well so be it. I don’t care for a lot of custom stuff, but can’t see what benefit there is to picturing some one else’s ride here and asking for opinions. Sounds like open auditions for show car judging.

I imagine Koker and Foose have inspired a lot of would-be enthusiasts and that has to be a positive for the car community. The reality is H.A.M.B. style vehicles aren’t really the subjects on tv.

As builds from Count's Customs go, this one is actually better than most I've seen. The vast majority of what comes out of their shop makes me want to look away. So this one is actually a lot less offensive than almost anything else I've seen. The things that are wrong are all easy fixes.

  29. Funny, I bet he builds stuff he likes or what his customers ask for. Kinda like I do, if no one else likes it I could give a fuck quite frankly but I built a lime green Fargo so what do I know.

Danny is like the rest of us he built the car the way he wanted it, from what I understand he built the car a long time ago, I would drive it. HRP
