Technical ID this SBC

Trying to ID what car my engine came out of that is in my 50 Chevy Styleline. Block casting# 3970010 and the only other numbers I have found on the front are 161101073 K08. Thanks for Help!

 

It’s a 4 inch bore block, about all I know.
Maybe change the title to ID this SBC.

 

@squirrel is the man as far as this stuff goes. If you can get the numbers from the right front of the block at the deck where the head bolts and the casting number under the valve cover area, it will offer more info.

 

3970010 came out in 1968 and is most likely 4bolt main

 

Truck block K code 010 most likely 350 mid 70's.

 

JD...whatever that website was that you got that info is very wrong. In 1968 there were two 4" bore small blocks...casting number 3914660 and later 3914678. In 1969 there were 4, 4" bore blocks 3932386, 3922388, 3956618 and finally 3970010. The 3970010 was used in the latter half of 1969 production.

Other guys have also said that an 010 block is likely a 4 bolt main. Doesn't make sense to me. In 1969 and 1970 I'd agree...if it was a 4 barrel engine or from a 4x4 truck, a 3/4 ton truck and possibly van too. But after that? Every 350 2 barrel powered car Chevy made.. Novas, Chevelles ,El Caminos, Impalas, Camaro...into the mid to late 70s was a 4 bolt main? Don't think so. After 1970..probably LT-1, L82 and 4x4 and 3/4 ton trucks, and vans only id bet.

 

Thanks for the info guys. We are just confused why the 161101073 K08 number on the front of the block doesn’t pull up anything.

 

Posting pictures of this ^^^ might help us narrow it down.

Edit; The belt drive, AC Compressor, etc looks late 80's to early 90's

 

Thank you for helping me with this. This is my first project car. I purchased it from a lady whose father passed that was working on it. She has no info on the motor, rear end or the front clip. We were hoping if we figure out the motor might point us in the right direction of the front clip. Will try to get the numbers under valve cover posted in a couple of days. Thanks again.

The numbers sound strange, a picture of them will tell us if they're the original stamping or something else (it's pretty common to find the block was decked, and stamped with an invoice number by a machine shop, for example).

But it's pretty doubtful that you'll get any useful info, even if you can ID the block's origin. Lots of pictures of the parts you want to know about, will help folks help you figure it out.
