I made my 20 mile trip to the fair grounds in Yakima for the Vintiques NW Nationals Saturday morning and managed to survive for two hours before my knees gave out and the heat started bothering me. Here are some of the Hamb Friendly rides I saw.
The paint on the gold sedan just flat owned it, The 60 Pontiac was interesting and normally I think showboards at outdoor shows are one of the lamest ideas around but that one tells a story. The little blue Chevy Sedanette was sweet and the Mopar wagon was set up for a wedge but I don't think it had an engine in it. It was in the swap meet area and I forgot to get shots of the fo sell papers in the window.
I kept hearing something that sounded like a guy on a bike doing burnouts out behind the horse barns and when I got down in that area they had set up outlaw lawnmower drags with lawn mowers with 4 cylinder bike motors and wheelie bars and they were loud and quick on their 100ft track.
OK I like bobber trucks and then the blue 32 4 door highboy with a Y block valve covers just flat rocked my socks. That was hands down my favorite car on the grounds (note I got told that the only thing Y block was the valve covers. blew it on that one.
The pup and I compared notes on how hot we were and that we ought to be somewhere a lot cooler, In the Sundome where it was cooler the Grafitti car display was drawing a lot of attention and Madam Fifi held court on the other end of the room. Then a nice little Triumph bar hopper rounded out the batch of what I can show on here. That's when my knees started hollering that they wanted to go home and I made it out to the far reaches of the parking lot past more tow rigs and trailers than you find at most Goodguys events.
I saw the Mercury Yblock over here at Puyallup last week and really liked it. But that blue 4 door is something else. I’m a hard core Yblock guy, but it takes great assembly skills and a set of big ones to paint a Yblock white. Thanks for the photos Mr48.
Wow, great pictures. The Vintiques is a great event, one that I have not been to in quite some time. It’s now on my bucket list.
Is that really a Y block in the Blue '32 4dr or just made to look like one? Exhaust ports look wrong and isn't that a fuel injection setup? Heads to valve covers look odd too. Been many years since I owned Y blocks but seems odd to me. Dave
Hey @Mr48chev Thanks for taking the time to post some great shots. My friend John Harwood drove his Ford Fairlane over to that event. Thanks from Dennis
I opened this on the big screen this morning and went “sh..”. No timing cover and adapters under the valve covers. I take back what I said about the big ones. I don’t know enough about what an LS looks like to id one.
Don't feel bad. I did the same thing. Even the wife asked what I was making strange face at... told her I was trying to figure out what the hell I was looking at. Bitch'n fordor though.
