Got the quarter and rocker welded on today, ready for some metal to metal filler over the seam.

I did pick up a drivers side quarter panel that hasn't been ran over by a delivery truck. This should help speed up the repairs.

I did take some time to take another swing at the car today. Working on getting the drivers side as far as the passenger side. The weather forecast is looking good for some good progress.

Looking back through this thread and see I have left out some of the work I have done. Being I'm going to install a roll bar I wanted something substantial to land the roll bar on so for the inner rockers I am using a piece of 2x4 rectangle tubing. I then fitted some outriggers from the frame to the inner rocker. This should give some good support for the roll bar and some side impact protection heave forbid.

Thank you. I do need to pick up the pace on this project as there is a race in Iowa I would like to make.

I didn’t read through the whole thread, saw the date it started and jumped to the last page.
But looks like you’re getting close to the finish line.
    Good on you.

Oh it has been to the finish line many times. It was just time to fix the poor old car and make it safe.

I think it should. A new torque convert with a little more stall would be a big help also.

So are you the sole owner of the car now? Any plans to lighten it up?

At this point it is still Tom's car. He has offered me a deal to sigh it over to me if I build his two other 62 cars. As far as lightening this car not sure that much of that will happen. The events that I race in are bracket races so no need to make it faster, just needs to be consistent. We do have a 61 that has been back half that we all the fiber glass body parts for that we can put on a diet.

Well after being down with covid I am almost back to full strength and spent some time on the car today. Doesn't look like much progress but I will take any I can get at this point.

Got the quarter panel fitted. I need to wait tell I have an extra hand so I can run it through the step dies then I can glue it on.

  20. James, don't be in too big of a hurry to get back at it, especially as this weekend turns hot and humid. I had a nasty virus at the beginning of June and it wrecked me for two months. Subsequent exam by my doctors showed I had life-threatening pneumonia. Three rounds of antibiotics - the good stuff eventually - and I'm just now getting back out to the garage and doing small things on the '29AA. Take time to get fully recovered, then thrash away like you want to.

No worries on my end, I'm not working like I was 35 years old anymore. As far as the weather goes I'm lucky enough that the hot and humid weather doesn't bother me, it's the cold that I can't stand.

Panel is glued on. I'll let it set overnight then get to welding the loose ends.

Todays progress was not as planed, ended up rewiring a table saw then made a trip to the lake to pick up a fuel cell for the car. Try for another big swing at it tomorrow.

Well I was at it like a house on fire then I scrapped my arm when climbing under the car on the lower rocker.
I did get the outer 2x4 in and the outriggers welded in. Then had to run home for some first aid.

This old thin skin just won't take much abuse.

  28. I hear you James. Hope it is not too bad. I have that problem because I am still working full time at the auto repair shop, came home yesterday bruises, cuts and beat tired. Ahh what fun it is.

I'll make another stab at it tomorrow and not at me.
I need to get the rocker welded to the 2x4 rectangle tubing then I can bend the roll bar.

Add some blood thinners to the program and it gets messier quick. I have a first aid cabinet in the shop and "super glue" in the tool kit for fast repairs to the skin when needed.
