A 9 inch is what you needed. Not fast at it, but I can perform the poor man's quick change in about 90 minutes. Later down the road you can get a pumpkin with 5.13's for some 1/8 mile fun!

I'm gonna put 4.10's in it. RPM calculator says that those gears, 28" tire, and .073 overdrive is 2450rpm. I like that. I ordered a radiator from Jegs this morning, if I go on and spend $60 on brake shoes and wheel cylinders for the 10 bolt, and $60 on a master cylinder, I just might be able to drive this beast over to Lloydfest  not sure though. Running out of time quick

Well, there you go. You've got people coming who would probably like to get to wrench on your new ride. You know the sayin' "Many hands make light work". Especially if there is beer involved. ;)

The car is looking awesome and congratulations on the motor. When people do good things it comes back in many ways. I love your enthusiasm to accomplish your goals. This is my story time if I may. I’m 74 been running hard my whole life. Been into anything with wheels since I could roll them. Take time and smell the roses as they say life goes fast.

    90 minutes? Holy crap!
I had a 9" in my old '40/'37 pickup. As I recall, I had 3.23 for the street and 4.56 for the track. Changing gears was about a 3 hour ordeal...hate the smell of 90w.

You're so right about that. Sometimes it hits hard that I'm not 20 years old anymore. I try to enjoy life, cutting and welding metal is enjoyable to me. Body filler on the other hand, is the reason my elbows don't work like they used to lol.

4.56 with a spool is my track setup. Aluminum case, through bolted mains and billet pinion support.

I think the guys who do this often, say every two weeks or so, are changing relatively fresh gear oil.
I rebuilt a D44 years back, put the wrong gear oil in it, realized it after a 3/4 week period, drained and refilled.
Smelled like I could fry bacon in it!

But, probably took me 3 hours to change it;)

I wish I had the Big Block torque that would let me run the 4.57 I have at the track. Instead, I have a puny little 331 with too much tire and not enough Ass to keep it from bogging at the hit. :( A 5.43 or 5.67 gear set is next on the list of things to do...:D:cool: I'll just leave the 4.57's for the street. :p

Glad to say that speedway has tri five sbc fenderwell headers fairly affordable. They didn't have them when I put the El Camino together. I ordered a set today for $472. Doug's was around $1200

2 1/2 hours on the passenger side  guess I was tired. Next week in the evening I'll put the motor and transmission in, easier to put the transmission crossmember in from the top side with no floor in the way ;) then the floors will go in. Check out that pile of free sheet metal i saved!!! :p if any of you need used 55 Chevy floors, I got you  20240809_182619.jpg 20240809_194559.jpg 20240809_194611.jpg 20240809_194619.jpg 20240809_194621.jpg

If you blow that passenger side picture up, you'll see that there is a bit of stretch going on in the original quarter lol... I think I'm gonna cut it out and roll a piece of metal. By the time I get done cutting, ain't gonna be nothing to sand blast
