Reminds me of something I found last week inside an enclosed driveline. 12 bolts between both ends of the driveshaft and two loose with no Loctite.

My door to fender to rocker is screwed on the driver's side. The fender has been patched on, but I'm just about to go wild with a cut off wheel and make my own gaps lmao

That is how it is done. Cut and weld.

I cut and cap where they are too narrow. I add TIG rods where they are too wide.

My Falcon was built with a HALF-INCH gap between the trailing edge of the hood and the cowl. There are now two rows of 1/8" TIG rods there, and I even made a new drop filler panel to correct the whole leading edge.

The passenger door does not line up properly line-up with the dashboard, too. It is just made wrong. That entire feature will need to be rebuilt. It is blatantly wrong.

@fastcar1953 - I always thought the proportions of the early Chevy II / Novas were just right. So many more wheel choices now with those 5 lugs. Really liking the car.

Looking at cragars or astro supreme. Surprising not much in stock or have the right offset. I ordered 15x7 with 4 inch backspace. Cragar s/s. Going with 215/75/15 tires.

Personally, I go to Lowe's and buy the utility board. It's not much over 1/8" thick, kinda similar to thin luan, about $10 for a 4X8 sheet.

    OK maybe it's been a bit since I bought a sheet. Don't you love this economy? Screenshot_20240811-213643_Samsung Internet.jpg Screenshot_20240811-213634_Samsung Internet.jpg

After years of enduring hand crank and battery powered ring grinders I finally bought myself a real one. Used it on the 383 build today. 20240813_192518.jpg

20240817_165421.jpg 20240817_165526.jpg Got the bottom end of the 383 done. These take me way longer with all the block grinding and clearance checking+ file fitting the rings ...my fingers are also a little sore from the spirolockso_O

I hear what your saying about the spirolocks, I try and remember to trim my fingernails after one of those jobs same with automatic transmission rebuilds.

20240820_165254.jpg A little more 383 progress, cam degreed and test fitting a few pieces. I'll order pushrods next and button it up.

  25. I've got an interference problem with the lower radiator hose and the fan belt, and no one to blame but myself. I decided to use a late '60s sbf righthand lower outlet water pump on my 351W because it might save a few bucks by getting a more common radiator set up for sbcs. I made a new alternator bracket that I thought would work. It just barely doesn't (maybe by a half inch) even after the third modification of the alternator bracket. I have tried several pre-shaped radiator hoses and none so far have solved the problem individually. Advice from the H.A.M.B. community says piece together two hoses with an aluminum coupler. Haven't gotten the coupler yet but would rather get a 1-3/4 inch aluminum C-tube that could bend around the fan belt. Those don't seem to exist and I have limited welding skills. Is it time I learned to weld aluminum? Find someone who is skilled in aluminum welding? Abandon this whole route and go back to the stock water pump with a lower left discharge and buy another cheap aluminum radiator to accommodate that? I know the joy of hotrodding isn't that it is just "plug and play," you gotta use your brains and solve problems in three dimensions. But I'm getting old, lazy and less patient by the day. Got any ideas not in play?

  29. IMG_2304.JPG I'm getting long-distance help from lumpy 63 on plumbing the lower hose between my radiator and water pump on my 351W. I had a fan belt that wanted to argue with the lower hose about a point of physics, something about two objects occupying the same space at the same time. Got the right part ordered now (thanks, Colin) and should see it soon, then onto plumbing the transmission cooler lines, wiring and start up. Someday I'll show a little more of this 50+ year '29AA project. For now, this is what today's challenge has been.
