not sure, but that phallic instrument in his hand may have something to do with her apparent demeanor.

I'm assuming you're referring to the picture with the hoodlum leaning on his Buick and making lewd remarks to the quite unimpressed lady passing by. If that's the case, all I can see in his hands is a bottle of Coke.

OK. Upon closer study, I think you’re correct. At anything other than careful study though, that long pipe looking thing in the display window looks to be part of the Coke bottle in his hand.

I know the heading of this thread is “…no explanation…”, but can someone explain something to me:

Flagmen at a drag race…. I understand street racing and the need for an impromptu method for a start, but at a fixed venue? Staging lights and a tree seems so intuitively easy. Why did flag starts last so long (in the sport) and how did one establish the exact start and finish times for record runs? I am of an era that only knew trees and lights at the strip, so go easy on me.

I read that for time near the end of flag starts there was a button on the pavement that turned on the timers. The starter held the button down with the flag, flag up, timers on, cars go. Not sure if just at big meets or where exactly.

Sad to say but this is what you need to carry whenever you’re going to the local Walmart here in Memphis
