I got this old sun tach and transmitter but I am using a GM style HEI any way to make this work on my car? IMG_7675.jpeg

Before you do anything, you might want to check inside the transmitter for corrosion.

    - side of the coil SHOULD be fine, but I'm sure not going to tell you it WILL work, risking that vintage stuff.
You can try sneaking up on it by checking a cheap tach on a points car, then the HEI, then the Sun on the points car, then on the HEI. Take measurements of voltage, but the transient spikes on coil collapse would require a 'scope to monitor.
Do you have any paperwork with the tach?

You can have a circuit board put in that tach that eliminates that box.

Would that let me plug it into the terminal in the hei without burning up the tach? Also do you know who does this?

I think a place called Bob’s speedometers does them. I had one done by someone, I don’t remember their name, because it didn’t work and I sent it back to them four times and it still didn’t work. I had to go to my bank and have my credit card reimbursed. They were awful to deal with and I guess that’s why I don’t remember their name. I’m pretty sure the place is Bob’s speedometer. There may be others like classic instruments maybe. Keep me posted on who you may go with so I can make sure you don’t use the knuckleheads that I used. I still actually have the tach and it has a little wafer on the back of it. It worked for about 10 seconds and then quit. I have a Unilite set up and maybe that’s why it didn’t work. I bought a Chinese look-alike and it works perfect. Mine is not the exact same sun tach as yours. Mine is a little older version.

Like lowrd said call Williamson. They have done all my early tachs and even changed 10 grand tach to an 8 grand. They all worked fine, good service and faer price.

I am a dealer for the tachmatches if you’re interested in purchasing one. Shoot me a message and I’ll send you my number.
