other than having the stock cam ground, are there any billet sticks out there that can be ground to specs? Are there any other options? Contreras Cams did make billets but have stopped making them now. Thanks Mike

You can’t put much of a cam in them. The hyd lifters have a very narrow band to get oil. If the base circle is too small, the lifter will not pump up. The funny holes at the top of the lifter bores are the holes drilled to supply oil to the lifers. Isky ground me a cam from blank. I asked if we could talk about grinds. He said no.

One of the biggest obstacles with the Dodge, as well as DeSoto, cams is the rather large central core. In stock condition you have very little clearance between the heel and what I call the 'rough'. Back many years I set up a grinder specifically to reduce the rough to enable bigger profiles. By reducing the rough to approximately 1.15" the cams could then get to 0.440" lift and 218° @ 050. I don't recommend that much cam in the smallish 241-276 engines but I have done it at customer request.
The reduction operation could be done on a lathe but be sure to make a generous radius at the side of each lobe.
And, as Andy notes, some caution needs to be observed on some big profiles. It may be necessary to go into each lifter bore and further elongate the oil feed to forestall supply issues.

lol. My buddy just told me that today. My “fun budget” is going to be low for quite awhile. So my plans changed, not for the better, but will require having my heads milled, intake holes slotted.
    He said “just supercharge it”

I said “my man, trying to save money”!

And to your point @silent rick , I was looking at that intake and thinking it looks like a weldment fabricated from plate.

Man, I love these baby hemis. I just wish parts weren't so darn hard to source.

You could just take the limp-dick route and put the hemi rocker covers on a SBC, like the one I saw at a show this summer.

The weep holes somehow supply oil to the lifters? On the now imploded WebRodder site they did a 241 build and put pipe plugs in the weep holes to prevent bleed off, best I recall.

If you think that parts are hard to come by now, wait 2 or 3 more years:cool:

The holes go thru the lifter bores and go into the main oil lines. This provides oil to the lifters. The open ends do nothing. The narrow band on the lifters keep oil from passing from the feed hole out the top hole.
