A 1958 custom, Mercury Turnpike Cruiser Nomad Style Station Wagon.

    Hello,

1958 was an interesting year for the Detroit factories. I may be a little skewed with owning a 58 black Impala during this time period of 1957 to the final goodbye in 1965. But, other portions of the industry did their best to capture new designs.

Of course, the Mercury Wagon was not the top seller due to the factory extras offerings. It is too bad that what the factory offered just did not play well with the consumers. The factories were going through performance modules to up the sales. But, Mercury wagons were the “staid” wagons, as were other models such as 58 Chevy 4 door wagons and not the 2 door sleek 1955-57 models. The term "utilitarian" versus cool, Nomad style wagons were the models of the future sales.

So, with a few mods, different colors and custom Ford brand wire wheels, this custom is one we would have in our garage for all things family. The one thing would be, if it were our daily driver, we would have to get a small size wagon or sporty car to be allowed in the small two car garage. The advantage would be the longboards would fit nicely and the shorter boards would be easily locked inside when away from the station wagon.

With no tall cabinets in the garage back wall… Size and bulk would prevent parking in most garages, sharing with another mid-size car or truck.

But, perhaps, a triple-carb “Super Marauder” 430 with 400 horsepower, available as an option, would be right up our alley, so to speak… YRMV

    Hey @jnaki
I always thought that the cool Mercury Colony Park wagon that belong's to @Kiwi Kev was a classy ride indeed!
Loved the Mercury Voyager wagon as well.

    Thanks from Dennis.

Just from what I can see in the photo I shot, they appear to be the old school type, "Armstrong" hydraulic shock's
