Jack Bayer of the team of Bayer-Frietas Gas Coupe? Hello, Adding to the mystery, several racers that made a name for themselves in other classes of drag racing was brought up as possible builders/racers in their own 37 Chevy coupe. The competition was heating up during the 1957 to 1960 time period of drag racing history. So, one of the early defeats pushed Doug Cook to an unheard of consecutive wins in the C/Gas and B/Gas class races. Other top racers during that competitive gas coupe/sedan class eliminations and timed runs looked like a who’s who of drag racing. This green 1937 Chevy Coupe was an unknown factor in this Al Hirshfield video. Al Hirshfield was well known for some pretty fast hot rod/drag racing builds over the years, but his early development used a lot of known one of a kind parts for the best performance possible. At the time, a single big Hilborn injector on his motor... But, look in your files to see if the information on that green 37 Chevy was not the Bayer-Frietas coupe. Other top racers during that competitive Gas Coupe/Sedan class eliminations and timed runs looked like a who’s who of drag racing. This Sea Green 37 Chevy coupe was also a mystery. We thought it was the Bayer Freitas Coupe. Man was this thing slick or not….no exposed rivet heads. If it only wasn’t crashed it would be in the Smithsonian.
