They said I should work on my car while I drive it.

    Almost killed myself.

I was just at a well attended show...its one that really caters to Hamb Era vehicles. It is a 240 mile or so one way so I did some prep for it...changed the oil and tossed in some nos AC plugs I got at a swap a couple years ago still in the box...they weren't exactly the same as the old ones but close.

It sounded and ran great but I believe they were a colder plug so I let it warm up a bit more. It ran great all the way there...a Hamber friend popped by and we chatted about the Ole Hotrod in excess and he asked to see it run...

I said sure...reached in, turned the key and she fired right up...rumpity rumpity rump...it sounded a little slow so I reached in and pushed the gas a bit and boom...one of the two carbs had a healthy backfire knocking the screen clear out of the bug dome 7 to 10 feet in the air...it landed in the dirt...the base was still in the carb...

    That was a little embarrAssing...:D

Well I picked it up and cleaned and worked it back into its base and back into the carb...

It ran fine all the way home...I guess the powervalve survived...they are 94s...

I should have give it some choke instead...

Boy isn’t that the truth! Taxifornia at one time had the best roads and highway then they put the “gasoline tax” into the general fund and everything went to s**t. Now with influx of electric cars here there is less $$$..

In PA,funds clearly ear-marked for the highways are always transferred to the State Police. Guess they need to replace a lot of chinstraps.

That "chin strap" is missing the tennis ball.

Using my considerable experience with '30s-'50s Ford transmissions I tore into my first Morris Minor transmission. I was not prepared and spent some time rounding up little coil springs and detent balls. :D

In HS I had a '56 Austin Healey 100-4 with a broken 3/4 shifter fork. I pulled the trans and replaced the fork but the O/D unit had a bunch of 6 inch long or so springs between the O/D unit and the trans. They, along with a cam lob gear made mating the O/D unit to the trans a PITA. Since the O/D didn't work anyway I chucked the springs and the cam. Big mistake. Without the springs there was no reverse. Drove it that way until I sold it to buy a wrecked '64 Comet to use to convert my '65 Falcon 2 door wagon from a C4 to a stick.
