Swapped the stock wheel studs for some long Moser’s. I probably didn’t need them, but I probably don’t need a hot rod either. Also working on brake hose routing. The weather was just too nice today not to work on the old Studebaker.

64 mile round trip in the rain. Each time I’ll go a little further until I work out all the bugs.

Last Tuesday I visited @gary terhaar RIP. This is the man who inspired me to pursue metal fabrication as a career 30 years ago. He mentored me, especially when we built the engine in my Rancho back in 2013. IMG_2250.jpeg IMG_2251.jpeg

Thank you for that. I couldn’t visit him in my boring commuter car. I had to pay respects while appropriately dressed.

  5. Made a hood prop for our '47 that tucks up out of the way when done. Decided I didn't want to use an in dash cable on the hood latch so I added a handle you can reach thru the grille.

And thanks to @Hitchhiker I've got a good 32 grille and shell to work on!

Gave everything underneath a final look over then took it off the wheel cribs and set it back on concrete

Well I'm continuing with the frustrating task of getting my car road legal too - this past week I was supposed to be with visitors from Israel but for obvious reasons their flight got cancelled, so I decided to have the week off and concentrate (among other things) on the car. On the positive side the machinist managed to adapt the water thermometer housing so it accepts the sensor (previously it was mounted on a brass pipe which had a too large diameter thereby ruining the rubber hoses and having no swage to hold them) and the cooling system is now assembled with water inside and what appears to be no leaks. On the negative side the car refused to pull gas into the carb (so no full working temperatures/pressures test) which can be either the fact the car was on the incline with an almost empty tank/kinked & loose steel pipe from pump to carb - or a dead fuel pump. The first is easily repaired, went to the local building supplier and got a copper pipe which I need to cut, flare and shape. The second will be PITA simply because it takes so long to get anything here from the US... I also managed to get other annoying things sorted like the windscreen washer working, the gas pedal fixed and some exposed floors cleaned and coated with paint. All during a heatwave meaning working at 90°f-100°f.

But I am a masochist, so all is good.;)

Been working on rear quarter panel. Have gotten it closer. Still needs some more finishing work on the high spots. Should be able to take care of the low spots with filler.

  16. Me and my son aligned the front end yesterday, which was the last of the mechanical things, so today I started working on the hood sides.
I never finished the body work from where I made all the separate pieces into a one piece tilt front end.
The plan is to smooth out the cloth and resin then cut the majority of the hood sides off but leaving enough to still tilt it by the hood.
