  1. There are a lot of bad welding pics on this site, but I think this is the worst one yet.

I rode from California to Oklahoma , Rt.66, in that truck in Oct of 1957! That 85 horsepower Flathead powered the truck loaded with heavy things , like a WC Allis tractor and other things while pulling a four wheel trailer heavily loaded! 85 horsepower!!!!

Running papers used up seven years for me. It was a livelihood for the household.
With Out of Town and Philly papers serving a thousand apartment units.
The kick in the pants was, one customer ( multi-branded papers ) owner of a famous New Jersey
night club, Ran the tab past $100 with no response. Dad took ill, Mom managed the billing.
I had to source a helper. We finally sought the (4) buildings' manager to lean on them.
To make this automotive,,, Between running papers I apprenticed (?) at Uncles Gulf station.
Paid me with all the gas I could burn. Summers meant AM papers, open the station. work 'til 3.
Then evening papers. Then to the Gulf to lock up.:p My secondary barrels were always yelling

  7. We were hosts of some family friends who lived in a trailer and parked it on our yard for about a year. He worked for a well-known pipeline and drove a 1949 F-1, which he used to pull the trailer - a pretty big one as it had an electric organ inside - all over the Midwest from Texas and Oklahoma up into Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota. Those Ford pickups were workhorses, for sure.

Not as much of a business guy as bones but by the time I was 8 and my brother 13 we were in the sheep & hog business. Dad was involved in that he provided pasture and some feed for our labor irrigating and doing farming (most of it). We both had bank accounts.

This picture was taken in my grandparents driveway in Pittsburg CA in '56 I think. My mom's uncle was moving from Santa Barbara and he gave my mom a bunch of furniture. So we drove my uncles '49 International K model from Canyon Texas to CA and back to get it. On the way the four if us rode in the cab. On the way home they set up a room in the bed and covered us with a tarp. Not much thought about safety? Plenty more kids where we came from. My folks were sharp dressers!

Gotta 13 year old that mows A LOT of yards in the area. Second season for doing it. His Mom sez "he's
'all about' his landscape business !:)
My older son warned me about letting kids mow grass. "IF they get hurt they can sue the crap outta ya and you don't have a leg to stand on legally...that's why you don't see kids mowing anymore...DAD!"
He may be right but I still like to help out a young 'go-getter' !

  20. That is a sign in Australia, where we don't have left & right, we have "right & the OTHER right".

I have to tell this….I am on a motorhome site, mainly to help me with mine and I hear all the time that you can’t pull a trailer in a motorhome unless you have X number of horsepower!
I have to chuckle….we may not been as heavy as some of the modern motorhomes, but we were heavy! And my father did it with 85 Horsepower!
I just shake my head and scroll on!

  26. I have both left and right hand drive cars. Instead of trying to work out which side of the road to drive, I always drive on the footpath ("Sidewalk" for you northern furriners)

  28. Probably the CBD of Melbourne . There are 3 or 4 intersections in Bourke street and Flinders Street with that system. Used to be a traffic cop standing in the middle of the intersection as well. 50 years ago you had to memorize those intersections and street names o_O as part of your driving license test . Learn by heart or flunk .
