I've used U Haul several times but there are limitations to their trailers.
The deck on a U Haul is only 12' long and most full size cars will not fit.
Prices vary considerably. One way to Las Vegas from Longview, Wash, two days is $350.00, From Las Vegas to Longview, Wash, same two days is $1100.00

You made the right move getting the trailer. Uhaul tow dollies are pretty narrow, if you take a corner sharp with a wide car you can push the wheels of the dolly into the sides of the car, I've done it.

Another tip to keep cars from dragging on the trailer, when you're approaching the mid-point loading, put a length of 2x6 or 2x8 wood just in front of both front wheels, flat on the trailer. When you pull the front tires up over the wood, it'll raise the front of the car up an extra 2 inches and give you more clearance in the center. They only need to be long enough to get you past the catch point. If you use them, make sure to position them in the same place on the way down as well.

Also, unload the car slowly with the same come-along or winch that you load it with. If you let the car roll off quickly, when the rear wheels hit the ground it can sometimes cause a bump that'll make the car hit the trailer.

I rented a u-haul car trailer one time to move some commercial sized garage doors i had bought 250 miles from home.I picked up the trailer in the town i was headed to,so i wouldnt have to drag the trailer both ways?.Actually worked out pretty good, trailer was reserved and was there when i got there.I would definetly try and line up a trailer at the other end. harvey

One more thing. Do you have any quick pointers or advice about unhooking the driveshaft? If it completely disengages it seems like it would drag on the pavement if I didn't lash it to either side of the frame. Thank you for any advice. - Sean

Unhook it at the rear axle, tie it up so it doesnt deag,or remove it from the tranny side too.Im pretty sure they use a bolt on u-joint.should be 2 bolts per cap,new ones are available if needed, they will have a little safety cage to hold the bolts from loosening?.Best to do this in the daylight too,i wouldnt bother with the driveshaft if you are putting it on a trailer?.If it is hooked up it would keep the car from rolling if its in park. harvey

I towed a Mustang once with a tow dolly I borrowed from a neighbor and a friends half ton Dodge truck. it was about 30 miles. not sure what made me do it that way, every other car I towed I rented a 3/4 ton truck and trailer. probably did it 8 - 10 times over the years. safety first.

  9. Best advice is buy your own truck and trailer, I couldn’t live without mine, but I haul a lot of junk home!

Leave the shaft in the trans or you'll leave a trail of ATF everywhere you go ... just wire it to the closest heavy object ...

How much of the factory brakes did the fella pull out of the car ? If you start trying to "upgrade" the car with a bunch of new stuff, you're going to get yourself into a situation you won't enjoy ... the factory Bendix stuff it came with is capable of great service if driven normally.

Made it safely to Oklahoma and got it into my shop. I started with the easy stuff and compounded and waxed the paint and did some general cleanup. IMG_1654.jpeg IMG_1697.jpeg IMG_1698.jpeg

It’s on the parcel shelf. That’s the automotive equivalent of socks with sandals ;)

Uh not to argue, but in these parts, that is that is not for parcels.
Rather it's for dollies, bobbleheads, Hats, ball caps and extra lights to indicate braking, and other such stuff. Packages block too much view.

    Ha!
    You are right sir.
At first I thought....that’s cool hat.
Now that you explain, cool hats belong on the drivers head or on the seat beside them.
It’s not good for them to bake under the back window. They’ll shrivel up and shrink.
