For sure, my guess is they just want a price and be done with it. With a lot of the stuff I bet it would make a pretty good auction though!
"Sounds like the property not for sale, just contents." sounds like the property is sold already. They originally wanted 1.3 million for it then after a year they dropped the price to $999,000. But when you search now it says property off market, already sold.. He has been gone since June of 2023 but the property has been for sale since 2021 . RIP Michael.
Going to cost a good bit just to move everything. Those two buildings will have to be dismantled and carefully each piece marked for reassembly. Those big shop tools will need a crew to move them that is familiar with moving heavy equipment. You’re not gonna grab a couple of your buds and first cousins and some pickups with trailers to haul all that stuff in a month. Probably looking at $50,000 or more just to move everything, depending on how far you are going. I hauled a load for one of those moving specialists one time, it paid damn good. They loaded each piece with precision, you didn’t have to worry about losing anything off. Think they were based out of Nashville TN. Stuff I hauled was from the maintenance shop of a large sawmill that closed, heavy stuff.
Move a double wide trailer in and folks around Shelbyville will think you're just regular folk, and not one of "them damned Yankees".
I am willing to locate the washer and dryer right out front if that helps . Of course a still is a gimmee...
Yes, sad indeed, super nice guy. Many years ago I stopped by his shop when I was in the market for a chassis. He gave me the grand tour and listened to all my needs . I believe it was a week or so later and he had it all ready to go .I couldn't have been happier with the final product. Great guy and he will be missed by the Street Rod community.
I can understand his widow and family not wanting to deal with selling it off a piece at at a time but every thing in one lump has obviously made it a hard sell. A guy putting a shop together probably doesn't want or need the vehicles as cool as the belly tank and dragster are. The inventory of parts you have to buy at what they would cost your shop with the discount for jobber or wholesale.
You would have to have really deep pockets to buy the complete inventory of the business. And then a lot of the parts and cars you may not want! And then where will you store everything while you sort through your newly acquired goodies!
Sad to see and may he rest in peace. Makes me realize that all our stuff we collect and hoard, when the inevitable comes will become a problem for family that are not interested in what we have.
We had a local plumber who specialized in sewer hook ups. He had in his yard, on a main road, old urinals on the fence with plants in them, not 1 or 2 but like a dozen.... neighbors caused a ruckus over it, but it was not a code violation. He did take them down when he was running for a town office position.
