Technical Stewart Warner sheets per hour gauge

  1. Thought this was a tachometer at first. But happened to notice it actually said sheets per hour. What exactly is it? As you can see in pic it's a good size gauge. Didn't find much on Google.     Just a guess, but maybe was installed on a printing press so the printers knew how long it was going to take to print out a job. Could be driven by a speedo cable geared to the machine. Back in the day, newspapers were where the news came from, and competitors raced to get stories out first. Fast presses were a big advantage in the days of "EXTRA, EXTRA, read all about it." Maybe there's an old printer out there who can tell us.

    I would be good to spin it up on a power drill to see what it reads at a known rpm

    That’s the first one of those that I’ve seen. I’ll check the books and see if I can find calibration information on it. If not I’d have to get it on the test bench. It should be possible to calibrate it to run off the distributor and use it for a 8000 rpm tachometer.

    Ok here is what I found as a reference.
    The meter was made for the company
    Har-Sey’d.
    The calibration tag reads 6000 to 1000.
    That means when the test bench reads 1000 RPM the gauge should read 6000 +or- 100.
    Which is shown on calibration chart 22.
    I ‘m pretty sure I could calibrate it to read off the distributor, sometimes it takes a lot of time switching hairsprings and trying different levels of magnetism by charging and discharging the magnet.   15. Engines I run max id actually need it correct to is 6-6500. And they tend to live below 4k in my normal driving
