I recently purchased a 383 sbc for my ‘40. This new motor has a one piece rear main seal so I have to purchase a new balanced flywheel. I found one but it states that it’s for 10.5” or 11” clutch. I’m using the 10” clutch. Will this flywheel still work with the smaller clutch package. I would also like to replace my pressure plate which is a bork/beck 10”

I get ya, but no one knows the hole location of the flywheel you have(will get) or the PP hole locations.

you could measure the PP bolt circle on your pressure plate, and you could do some research online on new flywheels, and see if it matches. I just picked a random application on rockauto to show you where the info is

I think the new flywheel you are looking at has the mounting holes outside the flat surface the pp mounts to . The smaller 10” pp would need to be redrilled , and that may be impossible the way the flywheel is cast . Ps , these flywheels are lighter than an original gm .

Here is one I am considering for my sbc to ford conversion.

If I had to redrill theflywheel 1/4 “ for a 10” it would be difficult due to the way the flywheel is made .

Since you are going to have 383 cubic inches.........do you really want a 10 inch clutch? Move up to a larger clutch while making your choice and it will help harness that extra power. Call Ky Clutch and they will probably save you some money and tell you what you need. They may even be able to get you a correct flywheel cheaper. Lot of other people have tried them and been happy with the results. www.kyclutch.com 502 955 9173 :)

    Not to be negative,
But that not going to last , @ least I do not think ?
Typical mild 383 450 ish of torque ,
My Flat Head 32 with 39 trains ,
I Would have to double clutch 1 in 2 ,
I was afraid it would break with 100 hp

It really depends on you and your foot.
I have run this setup. Be gentle and it will work.

I can't imagine going to the trouble and expense of doing this kind of work just to drive it easy.

Had a older gent with a 500 hp 383 sbc in a s10 pickup, it never seen 3000 rpm or 60 mph, why build it if u ain't gonna drive it? A stock 4 banger could have done everything he needed and did with it at a lot less cost, hassle, maintenance, upkeep etc...

No I don't understand or get bragging rights other than stop light to stop light or 1/4 mile....
