IMG_8927.jpeg imagejpeg_1.jpeg Long story short, I bought a car today half way across the country from where I live. A ‘55 Catalina.
I was looking for months for a Pontiac to replace the OT Pontiac that I sold to one of my sons. When I found “the one”, how to coordinate a cross country inspection and pick up?That’s where my wife comes in. The car was located less than an hour from her best friends house. She offered to fly to Colorado , meet up with her friend, then drive the car back to her friends. There she can assess if it should be trailered or driven back.
Anyway, this is the second time in 4 years she has done this. I just don’t have a job that I can take that kind of time off work, and she loves adventure, and has enough car know how to pull off something like this.
    Thanks wife!

She’s still out in Colorado with it. They’re going to drive it around all weekend and see how it does. If she feels comfortable, she’ll drive it home, if it’s a little too sketchy, I’ll arrange to trailer it and it can sit in her friends garage.

How about one that will scrap mud after a heat race. We’ve been married 58 years and she still lets me play with cars. This was few years ago. IMG_0671.jpeg

Don’t ever call her that to her face! She would be offended. :)

Yes, believe it or not, I’M the one who’s apprehensive about her driving it home. I’d rather trailer it. But telling her what to do is like asking a mule to cooperate.

I have one like that....so I understand the entrenched attitude... but if is truly roadworthy...have her friend take a video of the car from the back, accelerating away from her....if there is no smokey exhaust...the brakes don't pull in a panic stop...steering is tight, the tires are properly inflated with good tread depth and there is a spare with air in it, the coolant doesn't look rusty no oil puddles...fluids topped off with some extra in the trunk...and a funnel...
snacks, drinks and a fully charged phone....I would have to let mine go for it...mine has worn out many a modern trekking around the country so just rewind your physci to 1958 to where she is just driving a properly pre-tripped three year old car.....
    best of luck

If it were out of the question, I would have just flown out myself and then flown back and had it shipped.
The tires are brand new. Entire brake system rebuilt 5 years ago. Engine was rebuilt 5000 miles ago, which I saw the paperwork for. Full on rebuild, but it was also 15 years ago. The rear main will leave a drip or two after driving and parking . No smoke, knocks, or ticks.
It’s just that if a water pump, generator, ect goes out on a 70 year old car, in the middle of Nebraska, you’re not running to the local AutoZone for parts.
