Holiday is over. It was back to work today. Made some progress fitting the floor pans to so that I can mount the seat to figure the main hoop cross bar height.

Got the trunk dropdowns welded in and first layer of reinforced filler over the seam. Then loaded up and brought it home. This will save me a 2 mile trip to work on it but my shop is a fare weather shop. I'll work on finishing the body and paint to protect the outside then finish the inside.

  5. Nice progress. I hope you like that Hobart welder as much as I do my Hobart 190 Handler.

That thing works great. I only thought it fitting I use it to repair the car I won it with.

Finished up my third round of the fiberglass reinforced filler and started on my first round of rage ultra. Man I hate this body work.

Well today was a good start then had to go load up the rest of my equipment at my buddy's shop. Then had a pop up rain shower that I was not ready for. I did get one layer of rage on and worked down, hope one more round of it and be ready for primer.

After a few more rounds of rage I got primer on the passenger side today. I think it's time for a beer.

I was hoping you would have it ready for the Fall Out Drags this coming weekend, they advertise a muscle car 348-409 section this year
The Shaker would have even had a chance to get even, running against the little 327 64 Chevelle this year  lol

Nice job with the quarter repair, and the floor/rocker repair is first rate. I used Panel-Bond on my '62 right rear quarter wheel opening panel, despite people saying there'd be a witness line visible. Nothing so far, looks great. I'm swapping the 4.11 posi center section currently in mine for a 3.36 open one tomorrow, I find it terrible to drive. I'm not racing it, so I don't need the gear, and I don't really care for a posi. My car has a later 454 in it with a TH400. Totally dig your car, I like the lettering and they way you're going with the whole thing. (edit) I wonder how accurate you found the lower quarter panels to be? The wheel opening on the panel I bought looked fine until I looked VERY closely, it's not as crisp as original, it looked like it done with a bead roller. I finessed it with some short strand glass filler to m make the "roundness" more crisp. I considered getting the same panels you used but my car wasn't as rusty, so I didn't want to replace as much. 17276B31-91AE-4113-80A2-3B82E497B07C.jpeg D57A260F-9773-4B64-8445-65E12AAFD757.jpeg E633CAA7-6A72-4EBB-84C0-F012FA2D5B87.jpeg

What filler did you use over the seam?
I used the reinforced filler over the seam and did my blend work with rage ultra.

I sure would have liked to of made this event, maybe next year.
The last time this car was on track was that event. I made it to quick for no roll bar and my better sense said this car wasn't safe so here I am now.

On another note on this car, I always had an overheating problem with the stopped up radiator. I think the problem is solved now.

Test fitted some 28x10.5 slicks. They fit but are a little close on the inside. The M/T wheels have .5 less backspace so this should make for a nice fit.

I have to say it felt good to have oil and antifreeze on my hand instead of body filler and primer.

Be interesting to see what the difference is. These M/T wheels feel heavy to me.

Same. Short strand 'glass filler first then high end filler to finish. Similar to Rage Gold, may have been PPG. The difficult part of my repair was finding that some 45+ year old body work following what must have been some pretty serious collision damage. Surface rusted metal on the tops of the quarter panels at the leading edge of the deck lid covered by up to 3/4" filler over stress buckles and ball peen hammer marks. Typical early 70's used car bodywork. Can't complain too much, it lasted almost half a century, my repair should be good for that long, although I won't. ;)
