Projects what caused these holes?

Let’s look at Google and spread patterns. For both buckshot and (most likely) a standard shell.

 

as a professional painter and auto refinisher... those hole will grip the bondo to where it will never be a problem, kinda like how rivets work... ive seen cars loaded with bondo that get hit... hunks fall off.... except where the slide hammer holes are....

do you ever want to get the truck done.... or is it just a hunk of metal that you are gonna self teach yourself how to do all the differant trades?? some youtube videos re better than going to school... if you don't get it you can watch again and again till you do..

 

Buckshot? I would rather hear the story about the wild wife the farmer had that wore stiletto heels. I think that would make a better fascinating story.

 

My experience says that rust will develop around the holes behind the bondo and continue to rust. Yes the quick and nasty rebuild shops left the holes from the slide hammer dent puller saying that they gave the bondo more adhesion and I heard that bull***** times over back in the70's.

 

Funny you mention 65 Mustangs, because Mustang forums seem to agree that lead was used, not Bondo/plastic filler. Filling seams with lead was common for cars in that era.

Comparing a rivet gripping a hole to plastic filler gripping a hole just shows that you have no idea what you're saying, sorry.

 

I could see that happening, when I lived on the coast, my tools would rust over night if I left them in back of the truck... for me... i'd probley spot weld the holes and skim it with mud,***** brick it and finish block it.. and prime it...

 

probley did a 100 of them... had to get to the brazing rod... lol sorry your life is so miserable....and yes... you are sorry...

 

Usually the problem with bondo filling holes is not the adhesion. It’s that the bondo is basically a talc sponge and will allow moisture to soak through it and rust the nice freshly ground steel you slathered it onto. Works fine if you paint all sides. Not so much if you only paint one side.

I’m not seeing how the OP is gonna get a good coat of paint on the back side of this panel.

Nope, Factory Bondo is not a myth. It happened and it still happens. I have one friend who did a professional restoration of an original owner car and found bondo under the factory paint. My friend, Chuck, also was visiting a factory of the dark side (GM) and saw them slap a bunch of bondo on a car going down the line a few years ago. They had a big bucket of the stuff and weren't very neat with its application. ::

 

make sense to me.... I was kinda thinking it was like the lid on a jar type deal.... I personaly don't use a slide hammer.... nor would I leave the holes.... another thing... i'm in vegas...you can leave raw metal outside for months and it don't rust....

 

just to be clear here.... duraglass is water proof... I had to go make sure cause i'm old and forget stuff... and duraglass will grip the holes like a rivet..

I'd paint yellow triangles around some of the holes and say the truck was a company truck for the Swiss Cheese company, maybe dress up in a mouse costume.

 

That's funny, I read that same thread. You picked the one post that agreed with your opinion. That's the definition of confirmation bias. Consensus on several forums was that bondo was not used on Mustangs in 1965.

I imagine that panel is spotwelded in? If so, I would cut the spots, remove the panel, weld it up proper (and "in position", not over your head) and then weld it back in.

Or, remove the pointy bits, add dyno mat for sound and temperature control and have the upholsterer do a nice headliner with bows. No one need ever know, other than the HAMB. Hell, at our age WE won't even remember in a year.

I too would drill spot welds or even cut the panel or to fix the holes but I also don’t charge me.

 

You worry too much over***** all. If you put a headliner in the truck no one will ever see them, and they are not structural, that is, they don't weaken the body.

If you are not going to put in a headliner you can smooth them over with body filler and sand smooth, being inside out of the weather, the filler will last longer than you will.

 

Uh.... the rust around the pinchweld would concern me a lot more that the holes.

Depending on climate, mine don’t have a climate controlled environment, things continue to rust even inside a building.

 

may be have to z bart the whole truck

 

I’d drill out the spot welds holding the inner panel in place.
Hammer and dolly the holes shut. Then weld.
Fabricate a new piece to fix that rotted area
Reinstall the inner panel.

have a c10 I will have to do similar

 

I have a C10 in my shop that had rust on the inside of the roof... so I cut the top off and flipped it upside down on the horses to fix it

 

this is how extreme this thread is....making a big deal out of a few hole inside the cab of an old truck, and those that say they would tear the truck apart to fix them... all the while they are good with the thousands of holes every else drilled screwed and penetrating all the other panels and frame.... so one has to step back and say... you mean to tell me in order to put speakers in my truck I need to cut all the spot welds in the kick panel and package tray... mount the speaker.... through bolt it . weld the back side of the screw.. seal it then put the panel back????? really..???? even at the factory they screwd the dome light in... screwed the dash ,kick panels, door panels, window moldings.. absolutly nothing more is going to happen to those holes that are 50 years old any more than what has happened... what do you think happens to all the exterior trim screws???

Specking out doing a big back window swap in a c10. Got a big window parts truck. Can swap over the inner and cut out the glass opening or swap the entire top and rear of the cab
Who knows what we will do
