this entire thread has very little or nothing to do with traditional hot rods . with that said I am moving this to the off topic forum. this crap isn't the least bit funny or entertaining (at least not to me)

  14. Yeah, it has a lot of stuff that isn't even related to humor or hot rods. It lost its prime directive.

Yeah, let's not talk about anything that isn't in your collections. There is no humor in "traditional hot rodding" this is serious shit! If it offends you that we laugh, don't read it. Nothing here is required reading you won't fail he quiz.

Someehow, it made it past 2300 posts. at least it didn't disappear. There may be some value to folks logging in to see what's new here, then moving on to more HAMB-relevant posts.

    Hello,

When we were young, there were plenty of things to keep us busy during those long summer days, leading into night. Our neighbors were a large family of 5 and their house was bigger than our small craftsman house, next door. The oldest kid was two years older than my brother and his sister was one year older than me. Then there was a younger sister by a year. They moved in after we moved in 1948 and stayed well after we moved on to our last Westside of Long Beach house until 1998.

Somehow, it had to be the older brother who gave us the idea of Coca Cola for kids. He told us of a way to make normal Cokes in bottle come with a “little kick.” We laughed at that idea of mixing something with Cokes to give it more “oomph…” It was legal and no worries about the stores not selling the product. It was the red/white box container with an amber color small bottle of Vanilla Extract inside. Sold at most stores, including drug stores like Thrifty or Sav On. Even the neighborhood Rexall drug store had it in stock.

We laughed at the idea and did not think of it again until junior high school, years later. When a bunch of us all gathered to see what we could come up with from our dad’s supplies without getting noticed. Smokes, yes, only a pack or two from the carton. But from the liquor cabinet, he was sharp-eyed as he was the only one to drink, when his friends came for a visit. So, he knew which bottles to use or have used to mix his drinks.

Now, as we were little rascals, the thought of getting in trouble for taking some of his valued liquor was daunting. So, we remembered the thing our older neighbor told us many years ago. Get the vanilla extract from our mom’s kitchen cabinet cooking supplies. Then no need to get liquor from our dad’s cabinet. We used our own bottles of Coke plus an eye dropper of Vanilla Extract to spice up our Cokes.

Wowee… a new “legal” way to use household ingredients to get a different take on “mixed drinks.”

As teens, the mixture was popular with both girls and boys. So, it was an acceptable form of “adult beverages,” just in a different way.
