Hot Rods Big Daddy's 55 2 door wagon gasser

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 1, 2024.

  1. I take responsibility for the intake.

  2. A friend of mine had a knockoff rpm air gap on his big block, the aluminum was so porous that it weeped oil in between the distributor and carb.
Drove him crazy thinking the distributor gasket was failing or intake machined incorrectly, distributor hold down was at fault or bolt to long etc etc

This one was leaking water to the outside on the left bank, front and rear water passage. Nothing in the oil though. Then after i ran it for about 10 minutes to run the cam and lifters in, the leak went away. And no it didn't run out of water lol... so we'll see what happens.

Congrats on your progress so far. You've done more (by accident!) on your project car in the last three months than I've done (on purpose!) with mine in the last three years.
Getting it running is a big step. Sounds real healthy too.
Thanks for posting the updates, it's been great to follow along.

Well shit that sucks. So just two push rods bent? I'd be concerned about bent valves. It doe'nt take much. Now just apologize to the dog and you'll both be good.

No it bent all of them pretty much. If it bent a valve it doesn't show any symptoms. Good compression on every cylinder. I went over everything. Probably a good thing that it didn't have hardened pushrods in it. All is good now. On to the rear end and brakes. it was the neighbors dog, s shouldn't have been there in the first place lol

Cats are for kicking. Dogs are our friends. It sucks that it happened. Who assembled the engine. You need to kick his ass.

Dogs shit in the yard and tear I garbage. My boss put it together, no throwing blame or finger pointing here, I'm still thankful for the gift.

Yea, what that motor cost you I couldn’t complain either. Damned nice of him to give it to you. But I still like dogs better than cats!

No dickhead... :( working on customer cars.... trying to decide on the rear suspension. Of course the easiest thing to do it leave it alone, and change the perches on the 8.5", but I'm not at all happy with the leaves. Looks like he took 2 main leaves and burnt the eyes off, then added them on each side. There's 7 leaves. But if I go with ladder bars and coilovers, it seems that I've gotta lose the factory gas tank to make room for the coilovers and crossmember. Hurts my soul that I've already bought the ladder bars, coilovers, ladder bar crossmember, coilover crossmember, and coilover brackets for the axle tubes, and not gonna use them. But I still need to order a panhard bar setup. So.... here i am. I'll sand on some primer and filler for a few days while I make up my mind lol...

I did put the 750 back together though. Gotta make a fuel line for it.

Does that give you the option to run a larger fuel tank?

  19. If I would have known you didn’t have a fuel line, I would’ve brought you one during Lloydfest. I have an extra since I put a metering block on the rear of mine in place of the metering plate.

I put the quick fuel plate in mine so I can tune with jets. But I don't want a hard line that I have to take off to remove the bowls. But I appreciate it.

  21. I’m not familiar with the quick fuel plate, I’ll have to look that up.

  22. You can use a ladder link instead of a panhard bar, I have them on 2 of my cars.

Look what showed up at my shop! Thanks Lloyd, lining up side mounts on my '55 will be a breeze now. Another friend with a 55 is next in line. They'll get passed around!

You're welcome my friend, glad to help. Order you a set of side mounts like I used, worked out perfect. I can give you the link to order them.

Figured I'd jump in and work on my clutch linkage this evening before I came home from the shop. It hit my that I had a Z bar pivot that bolts to the block, that I took off of a 2nd generation C10, so I dug out of of a box and gave it a try. Had to add a piece of plate to it, forgot to take a picture of it done, but it worked awesome. With that figured out and assembled, I was trying to figure out the cross bar bushing issue. Didn't wanna hack it up too much, but after talking to ol lumpy, he recommended converting it to a heim joint. So I ordered a bunch of 3/8" heim joints. Still cheaper than the cross bar bushing kit lol. So it has a Z bar in it now, just not hooked up to anything  20240924_155430.jpg 20240924_170220.jpg 20240924_171659.jpg
