Several month’s ago I said no to myself about buying Cragar SS wheels (15X4.5 F & 15X7 R). I mean the price of new wheels is thru the roof! Then this past July 2024 revealed things I didn’t know about my health. So now I’m having “you only live once” thoughts.

    Leave it? IMG_3090.jpeg

    Change it? IMG_3091.jpeg

  2. Well , crap . I hope everything is ok with you .

but , if ya want them go get them . I can’t really afford the 56 I just bought but like you said . You only live once . Enjoy.

and seriously, I hope everything is ok.

  3. Hope it’s nothing too serious…Cragarslook killer.

  4. Hey, your car is beautiful either way, but I am biased to the steel wheels. Hope good health returns to you soon and I'm pulling for you...and the steelies.

Unless you're James Bond you truly only live once. '57's always look great with Cragar S/S wheels. Take care of your health the best you can and enjoy your car.

Yup, Cragars... hope you are going to be ok... and you probably know this but all the cragars that have been made for the last 20 or so years have a much flatter spoke than the originals. I don't know why they changed em. Your car will look way more like a hot rod with the Cragars

Ya, they are different. To make matters worse is the direct fit series use conical style lugs but the 15X4.5 is still made to receive shank type lug. Neither lugs look the same externally. So if I do the change I’ll do direct fit on the fronts and uni-lug on the rears that way all the lugs are the same.

Normally I'd say "wheels make the car" but that is a peach as it sits!

so, if ya do it you almost need to lower the front some too don't ya? No offense intended and I know that is a popular look but painted steel wheels and dog dish caps make your car look STOCK, we never ever would have left it like that as kids and everybody knows it...

Even though the rears are only 7” wide I’d mount 275/60/15 (like that old school bulge) which would be taller than what’s on the car now. Couple that with 165/80/15 up front, would be shorter than what’s up front. In theory, nothing to the suspension would need to be done.

I’m on the “change it” “or else” frame of mind. Or is that body? IMG_3001.jpeg IMG_3002.jpeg

I could handle some of that intentional streamlining myself.
As for the Cragers it is just money and and giving the car an interesting visual change without making a real change.

Why not have both? Swap back and forth depending on the mood you have today. Either way is good, I'd prefer the Cragars myself, but I woudnt do away with the others either. Hope you get to feeling better. Good Luck.

Exact thought on my end. The day’s of getting rid of take off’s is not a good idea IMO.

Not a fan of big & littles ( especially not that much size difference) on a tri five , especially if it's not a " track only" car . Chrome reverse or chrome slots , cragars are too " new" for pre 65 IMO

  28. Johnny, best wishes for your health. That's the most important thing, as you well know. 2 years ago I had a scare and it changed my perspective. Another vote to buy Cragars here.
Uni lug wheels are a pain it the ass! You would be better off getting direct fit rears.

I’ve had uni lugs before. Not that big of a deal. I mean we do mods all the time to are cars that bite us on the other end when it come to ease.
