Projects I’ve been bitten by the banger bug 29 roadster

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Logan LeMaster, Sep 20, 2024.

  1. My AV8 build has been dragging along. I decided that I should look for a decent roadster body for it. Something to give me a kick in the pants to keep moving on my build. Needless to say I brought this 29 roadster home,
Having driven the car some over the last month it has become clear to me that I need two hot rods in my life!!! A banger powered roadster and it’s bigger brother an AV8 roadster lol.

  2. Decided the 35 wires I had powder coated for my other project might be just what she needed. Now I got to get my other set done to replace the ones used.
Really quite amazing how much wheels and tires can start bringing a car around! What to do next? For several years I’ve been collecting parts in hopes to build a nice traditional style hot rod. IMG_8887.jpeg IMG_8884.jpeg IMG_8885.jpeg

I'll probley get flamed for this, but... carb, manifold , 7.0 head, headers, ... really wakes theses motors up to be plenty of power and they run with traffic with ease....you have to do the same thing to the flathead motor... bangher motors are cool ....keep in mind I don't know nothing about anything IMG_2900[8830].jpg IMG_2662[8761].jpg IMG_8808[8524].jpg

I've had two flathead powered A's and one with a warmed up banger and I'm building another banger powered A. My avatar was powered by a V8 60, I built it in the early 90's and was never happy with the V8 60. I built a 30 pickup with a B motor with a Winfield head, Ansen intake, Holley 94 , header and a Mallory distributor, ran great and drove it for almost 20 years. Then I built a 30 Sport Coupe with an 8BA flathead, runs and drives good but starting on a 29 Roadster Pickup that will have a warmed up banger. Not a highway cruiser but I really enjoy the bangers.

  13. Why would you get flamed? This ain't Fordbarn. We build hot rods here.

My vote for next step on the Roadster is reversing the eyes on the main springs and pulling a couple leaves to get it sitting more like a hot rod.

Bangers are more fun to drive than an A with a SBC in my opinion. …and traditional.

  21. Removed the spare tire and trunk last night, it’s starting to look better to me. I probably should build a plate mount to use the spare tire mounting holes! Would be a great way to hide the holes and paint damage.

That is what I did on my Roadster. I used a hardware store basic barn door handle and drilled it for the two bottom spare tire holes. Turned out pretty well.

You can see in this pic if you zoom in a little

  26. Really appreciate the videos your making! Super informative! I hope someday to collect some speed parts for this little roadster, your videos help to see what's out there!

ARE YOU LEAVING THE QUARTER BUMPERS?? PUTTING A FRONT BUMPER on the rear, or taking them off... getting those rear brackets off is a bitch..

  29. That's a great question. I need to dig into some build threads and period pictures tonight. I'm not sure what they were doing back in the day. As far as the height, I'm really not opposed to the way it sits right now with fenders. That being said I'm really drawn to the roadsters that are fenderless with just the splash aprons.

  30. Looks like no bumpers is an option. I crawled under the car last night and looked at the suspension, the shackles and bushings to be exact. Lots of old hard grease, probably wouldn't hurt to go thru those and add reverse eye main leaf's while I'm at it.
