Tow Truck was the name, given me by a boss who was surprised by my use of equipment.
It happened one late afternoon I got a AAA call to tow a wreck.
The wreck, Corvair, had been plowed into, hard in back.
Pick from front / no way the rear will roll.
Grab from back there is busted up suspension that likely is not gonna survive the stress.
I had ( still new ) never touched the dolly rig, tho it always had my eye.
Time to find out. Two poles get pinned into 2 pair of tandem wheels, car width.
Time tho was spent putting it into play. Assmbly P/U rear, set, place. Then hook to front.
Well and so,,, Quiting time had shown up.
The garage, a hang out for local misfits + mis-creants, was hosting an afterwork get together.
The word of me being lost ( still new ) was out.
The boss hearing of my approach, stepped out to see.
Looking over the rig He BOOMED "TOW TRUCK".
As years passed and other jobs, Tom was added.
Oh Hey, Great to see HRP asking questions

Mine is my last name. I saw no reason to use an alias here. When I meet people from this place in person the screen name that I knew them by makes it that much tougher for me to remember their real names…

Back in the days of EGroups I was selling Jeep 4.0 6cylinder stuff. Stroker motors and kits, big valve heads, Eaton M90 blower kits and the like. I was Accurate Power. I had an OBD II Jeep engine on our dyno for an unlimited time. I don't think anybody else had one. I could compare cams and see what could pass for idle vacuum with the ECU. We were able to test injector sizing with various stroker displacements. (We got to 5.0L) I was boring tons of throttle bodies. Turbo City was claiming 75hp from theirs, I dynoed them at 3.25hp. Everything I sold was tested on the dyno. Cecil County Dragway is right down the road so I could post times for my parts too. Shook things up a little, cutting through the tons of bullshit that was web lore at the time. This was testing, and building stuff, that had never been done. A scumbag from Clifford was trolling me on the boards, trying to eke info out of me that they could use. He was not using the Clifford name. A moderator clued me into it.
On EGroups, I was Mike@Accurate so there was no question who people were dealing with. When Yahoo Groups took over, they took away the @ sign as a possible character in a user name so, I became AccurateMike. I used it here on the outside chance a Hamber would recognize it. Mike

  10. should of been an AT not an a

I worked at jag for 6 years or so thought it was going to be my last stop in my automotive career .

and yes the VANDENPLAS is your quintessential Jaguar trim level , that’s the 70’s 80’s four door Jaguar sedan with the wood trim
pipe trimmed leather seats pic-nic tables in the back lambs wool Floor mats , the V12 engine etc etc .
basically your top shelf jag offering .

like I said , lots of drugs and alcohol in my youth ……. What where we talking about ?:D

My username on Ford Barn is Zax40. When I registered for the HAMB I was thinking what if I sell the 40 someday, I shouldn't make it vehicle specific. So I erased the 40 and hit save. Seemed like a good idea at the time, I might have had some beers that night :)

  12. When I joined 15 years ago I was working on my '40 Ford p/u, so without thinking it thru, I just used 40FORDPU.
I no longer have that p/u but have another one that's a project.
I would pick a different one now though, not tied to a specific vehicle.

When I joined 20+ years ago, there was another Neal registered and active here, who I think was in Arizona, so I became Neal in CA.

In the 1920's VANDENPLAS was a type of body that had fabric in place of metal over a wood framework. Doped like airplane fabric it was strong and light. Never knew Jaguar adopted the name as a trim level. Dodge never used it.

Fifty years ago a Vintage Sprint Car newsletter editor started calling me "The Kid" I started in the hobby when I was ten years old and have always been the youngest in any car group, but have noticed I'm starting to outgrow that as more older people stop showing up. When I joined the HAMB I was in the process of collecting all the bits to build a '37 Harley like the one Dad bought new, and just combined things into The37Kid, I'll be 74 in December:cool:

No where near as interesting as everybody else's but when I was signing up for that auction site years ago everything clever I came up with was taken. So I used the address of a cabin the wife and I had recently purchased near the Mississippi, use it many places
